sea pines or forest beach with toddlers?

We%26#39;re planning a trip to Hilton head in Sept with 2 other couples. It%26#39;s the first time to HH for all of us. We%26#39;re looking at houses and have found 1 that we like in Sea Pines and 1 in Forest Beach.

Would one area be better for families with little ones than another? Each of us has a small child (between 6 months and 1.5 years). We%26#39;re planning to go to the beach, playgrounds, go to shopping areas and people watch, etc. Not planning to golf or play tennis.

Any advice on location and details on how there 2 areas are different would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Annmarie

Ann Marie,

You should find out if the Sea Pines trolley and other Sea Pines activities are still in full swing in September. If not (they may stop on labor day, I%26#39;m not certain), then Forest Beach is closer to shopping and restaurants at Coligny Plaza, and is generally located more centrally on the island than Sea Pines. I find the Coligny area too crowded in summer, but in September it is probably more pleasant. Harbour Town is the hub of most of the activity in Sea Pines, there are just a few restaurants there and a nice playground. If you are into biking, Sea Pines has the most extensive biking trails (all flat) and most of the rental places should provide baby seats. The trails run throughout the Sea Pines Plantation and to the beach. If you decide on Forest Beach, you can always pay $5 per car to drive into Sea Pines for any activities you like.

It is a small island, all the restaurants are kid friendly, and you really can%26#39;t go wrong in either place (but for biking I%26#39;d take Sea Pines). We are spending a week at Sea Pines and another at Forest Beach this summer, so even I couldn%26#39;t decide!.

Enjoy!

If the Seapines place is very far south (near or on the tip) or anywhere near southbeach you have to be really careful about the riptides. Forest Beach is safe swimming and about the northern half of SeaPines is.

Could someone give us the directions coming from Chillicothe ohio thanks a lot. We are staying at the Myrtle Beach travel park in north myrtle beach.

I77 south past Charlotte to I20 east

I20 into and through Florence (follow signs to airport)

I20 (past airport) to US 576

US 576 to US 501 and take that right into the heart of Myrtle Beach

The next 18 miles are pretty much the same road the numbers just change. 301/76 8 miles to 76 then 7 miles to 576 then 3 miles to 501 South then 38 miles to 22 East (There is a welcome center on the right before you get to 22 East锟斤拷锟絊top at Welcome Center for coupons and beach info.

The Myrtle Beach Travel Park is NOT in NORTH Myrtle Beach. It%26#39;s at 10108 Kings Road (not to be confused w/ Kings Highway). Take 22 to end (Kings Road exit) turn right (next to factory stores %26amp; walmart) follow for about 1.5 miles to travel park on left.

  • a little upscale but kid friendly

Situation: 3 boys 2, 4 1/2 %26amp; 11, a mother in-law and wife. Looking for Beachfront, sort of higher end I guess. Not necessarily looking for a bargain, just want to make sure that the place is nice, clean and service level is there. At the same time the place needs to be accomadating to 3 very active boys. Does this place exist in Myrtle beach.

a little upscale but kid friendly

I would suggest Kingston Plantation,Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes,Or Hampton Inn oceanfront.

a little upscale but kid friendly

The southwind, The avista or Best western grand strand inn and suites(ask for new building) All are brand new really nice hotels.

I would say The Caribbean (kids activities, lazy river, kiddie play area) or Breakers Resort (Paradise Tower only)(Pirate boat kid%26#39;s play area, long lazy river) Both are close to Broadway at the Beach, with lots of stuff for kids. Breakers is closer to the Pavillion and Boardwalk.

Have you considered Ocean Creek Resort? Across from Barefoot Landing on Hwy 17.

    Good Crab Legs??????

My Husband and I will be in MB week of July 4th. We have been there several times, but would like to have some feed back on who has the best sea food buffet, with crab legs included! ?????

    Any info is much appriciated.

    Good Crab Legs??????

Crabby Mikes! I eat there 2-3 nights in a week. It%26#39;s close to surfside beach.

  • Would the week of Oct 24 usually be too cold for swimming...

I know whether can be unpredicatable...I read avg temps for Oct can be mid 70%26#39;s - is that still swimming weather?

My kids have never been to the ocean so I want them to be able to go swimming/splashing some...

    TIA

Would the week of Oct 24 usually be too cold for swimming...

In October, if the weather is 70 and above and sunny, my kids go in the ocean and swim. The mid October weekend we chose last fall was unseasonably cold,(highs only in mid 50%26#39;s) so swimming was out; but most of the time October is quite comfortable, and we enjoy one last warm, summer like escape to our beach house. The area%26#39;s ocean temperature that time of year is still in the low 70%26#39;s; that%26#39;s not hot like it is in the summer, but still OK on warm, sunny days. You will see other people in the water in October.

-My kids have gotten in the ocean and swam as late as Thanksgiving, if the weather happens to be warm. (but that%26#39;s pushing it, by then the water temps. are in the mid 60%26#39;s. Too cold for me!)

    Best Wishes!

Would the week of Oct 24 usually be too cold for swimming...

We always go to MB in the middle of October. Great weather, but it can vary from upper 50%26#39;s to low 80%26#39;s. The ocean is fairly cold at times, but pools/lazy rivers are great (esp. if the lazy river is heated). If the temps hover around the low to mid 70%26#39;s the ocean would be tolerable, and that is the way it usually is.

Avg Ocean temp for October is actually around 70 degrees which is a bit nip for swimming. Of course, kids are usually a bit more oblivious to temp so it may be doable, though you won%26#39;t want to get in :-)

    Hi all,

I%26#39;m even extending that into early Nov. this year. First full week - around Nov. 7. I don%26#39;t mind if it%26#39;s a little chilly, as long as I%26#39;m somewhere with an indoor pool. My disappointment is that it looks like EVERYTHING is closed in MB. I don%26#39;t need the amusement park, but are shops open, mini-golf, anything? Does the place really get deserted? I%26#39;ll have 2 kids - ages 12 and 9 - they hate crowds and 90 degree weather and this is the only time they have off of school in the fall. I%26#39;m driving from NY - would it be a total waste of time? THanks!!

Shops and minature golf are open. The main things that close down are the shows and amusement parks.

Myrtle Beach is now a year round vacation destination. The 2 large amusement parks are basically the only things that close (plus the water parks) during the winter. The previous post is incorrect, the majority of the shows remain open the entire year. The rides at the NASCAR park stay open all year; the Ripley%26#39;s Aquarium and Alligator Adventure also remain open.

You will find plenty of people and traffic no matter what time of year you visit. We own a beach house in NC an hour outside of MB and love visiting MB during the fall and winter. (you can actually eat in restaurants without an hour+ wait time! ) You will see a lot of golfers and retired people but also more and more families are taking trips during the offseason. Here%26#39;s the MB Chamber%26#39;s website: http://www.mbchamber.com/

    Best Wishes!

Yes, Myrtle Beach used to be a seasonal resort, but it is year round now. A couple of local restaurants may close for a month, but that%26#39;s about it.

I think it is likely the water will be cold in October. September

would probably be o.k. for swimming, but after July, you alwys have to worry about hurricanes (through November). Best to go in spring or early summer.

Cold ocean temp is a relative-term depending on what part of the country you%26#39;re coming from. In October the ocean temps can be quite warm BUT if there%26#39;s a hurricane the ocean temp can drop by 10 degrees instantly. The mid/end of Sept. ocean temp w/out hurricanes is about 87 degrees. It starts to cool off and probably should be about 80 degrees in early/mid October, depending on hurricanes.

    Check out this link:

    myrtlebeachinfo.com/cvb/visit/climate.html

Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce climate info.

Water temp. during October averages 73.

    In November, it%26#39;s 65.

    That%26#39;s cold to me!

    Landmark Hotel

Ive seen some very mixed reviews for Landmark. I believe I have a ';Standard Guest Room-Leisure'; and Im staying there with my boyfriend from Thurs-Mon in late july - has anybody had a similar experience?

Any feedback on Landmark is helpful. Thanks!!

    Landmark Hotel

    Girl!

Pack light! I say that because thier little carts are few and far between... and you have to haul your luggage over the crosswalk thing. Check-in is CRAZY! We had to wait in line like 1 hr just to check in. The elevators are SSSLLLLLOOOOWWWWWW! I think there are like 900 rooms in that complex. The pools are nice.. and they have a bar out by the deck and even an ice cream shop. If you plan on laying out... get out there early and put a towel down.. or the chairs will be taken quickly. The room was clean.. had no issues there. Hopefully it wont be too crowded for you... good luck and have fun!

    Landmark Hotel

I stayed here a few years back and I had a standard guest room, ocean front view...and it%26#39;s great! my parents also had a room, but it was an interior room and it was nice also...they had a view of the indoor pool. this is a very nice hotel! lots of places to relax like the pools/jaccuzzi(s)/bar...etc. and happy hour every night doesn%26#39;t hurt in the bar. I%26#39;ve stayed in various ocean front hotels and this is a good value and a good hotel!

checkout the new reviews posted today about the Landmark. My mom says its a dirty place I had her check it out for me in April.

  • Girls Weekend in August--Need HELP!!!!!

4 Girls--ages from 25 to 29--are going to Myrtle Beach for the first time. I would like to know whats a good place to stay (one that is on the beach) that has a crowd along those age lines as well as good places to go out at night. Half of us like bands and the other half likes to go dancing. Any suggestions? And does anyone know if the Coral Inn Resort, Sands Ocean Club or The Carribbean Resorts are any good? How far are they from the ';Broadway at the Beach';?

    Girls Weekend in August--Need HELP!!!!!

Coral beach resort is nice.Broadway at the Beach is about 4 miles from the resort.I have never stayed at sands Ocean Club but heard The pool bar Ocean Annie%26#39;s have a great live band.Broadway at the beach is about 9 miles from there.I would recommend all the bars and clubs at Broadway at the beach.I have heard a lot of good things about the Carribbean resort except we like to stay at resorts that have pool bars and they do not have one like the other 2 resorts. How long are you all going for?I think depending on when you go there is certain amount of days you have to book.Hope you have a great trip.

    Girls Weekend in August--Need HELP!!!!!

Thanks! I%26#39;m staying for 3 nights. I%26#39;m coming from Staten Island, NY and debating if we should drive or fly in. Is Coral Inn on the beach?

11hrs to drive or 1hr44min to fly spirit is the only airline without layovers. probably100.00 each way. coral beach resort is on the beach and is nice. carribbean resort charges a resort fee they neglect to tell you about when booking but is a nice place. Lots to do great nightlife.Broadway at the beach has a lot of clubs also some on the main drag downtown. both hotels are close to the action and coral beach resort has its own action right there.

All 3 are on the beach. If it is your budget I would fly this would give you more time for the beach and clubs. If you are on a budget i would drive so you have more spending money.

Thanks so much! You%26#39;ve both really helped. I think I%26#39;mleaning to the Coral Beach Resorts. Still don%26#39;t know about how I%26#39;ll get there though--have to see what everyone else wants to do. Thanks! Any more suggestions are welcome as well!

NEED A two bedroom with FULL KITCHEN within walking...

HELP!!!!!! NEED A two bedroom with FULL KITCHEN within walking...

i would suggest Hampton Inn Oceanfront. They are really new so the carpet is too.I also heard Roxanne Tower and a south wind condos are new.I heard Landmark is old and carpet is dirty.

NEED A two bedroom with FULL KITCHEN within walking...

Try sandy beach resort magnolia building or carribbean resort is very clean dont go to landmark!

    How much money??????

First trip anywhere and trying to decide how much money we will need . We will be leaving Saturday night driving down and leaving the next Saturday coming back home. Two adults and 3 kids {14,11 and 9}. We plan on eating out once a day, going to Barefoot Landing, Broadway on the beach. I am sure there will be some shopping. My brother said they spent about $2500 two years ago for the same number of people, including thier room.

Also do most places take Visa? I do not want to carry alot of cash, so thinking useing my debit card is the way to go.

    How much money??????

You will need about $2500 like your brother said. Most places do take visa.I feel this is a good option because if you pay with credit card you are less likely to spend a little here and there. The kids wont be able to Dollar you to death.Did you make a reservation some where?

    How much money??????

That should be more than enough and yes most places take visa. except maybe the small food places down town. think about getting one of those plastic tubes you wear around your neck to keep cash and your card in they are water proof and you wont have to worry about it getting stolen or lost because its always with you.

The amount sounds right to me, we spend about 1000(that does not include or room) or more when we vacation there. We eat breakfast and lunch in our condo and eat out for dinner. We spend at least 250.00 at the grocery store (or more) We use our debit card, did not include gas here...

We travel with 4 kids (all boys of course 15,14,8 and 3) and 3 adults. I also have my debit card and I always have at least $1000 on it, ususally do not spend all but I like to have that incase money as two years we needed to flee hurricanes.

  • Opinions on CrownePlaza Resort

    Hi,

My husband and I will be there the last week in

June. Any pluses/minuses? Any rooms to avoid?

Family oriented? Thanks for the input!

    Opinions on CrownePlaza Resort

I have not stayed at The CrownePlaza in a few years but we stayed in a condo across the street last week. They have a great pool area/pool bar and the grounds are beautiful. Do you have an ocean view room? Some of their rooms over look the parking lot. You might want to check on that. The beach is great.

    Opinions on CrownePlaza Resort

Crown Plaza is a very nice facility, and surprisingly not as crowded as the Westin or Marriott.

The only thing I would suggest keeping in mind...Most of the time, a family can rent a villa for close to the same price as these multi-level hotels. You wont be paying for the Valet Parking, Bell Boys, Concierges, Housekeepers, etc.

  • Red Roof Inn at Mt. Pleasant

Has anyone visited this propety lately? We%26#39;re looking for an affordable place to stay and I%26#39;ve stayed in the Mt. Pleasant area before with no problems. But I don%26#39;t want to stay at Red Roof Inn if it isn%26#39;t clean or has a bad reputation. I see they have microfridges, which would be great to store breakfast goodies.

    Any thoughts?

Red Roof Inn at Mt. Pleasant

We often stay there on pleasure and my husband frequently does while working. We were there in February and our stay was pleasant as usual. The hotel had some updates since there last...it has always been clean and good value for the price. Nothing fancy-if you want that, stay at one of the inns downtown. All rooms do not have microfridges, so be sure you request one.

Red Roof Inn at Mt. Pleasant

All King bed rooms do not have micro fridge, so you must book a room with 2 doubles. Yukky for one couple.

I%26#39;ve been inside both the Red Roof and the similarly-priced ExtendedStay around the block... the latter offers full kitchenette in every room and inside corridors and is about 25 years newer... much better for the extra $5/nite.

Search this website for mount pleasant lodging and read up more on that from the hotel reviews, also the forums from a few months ago.

    Magnolia or Middleton

My husband and are will be in Charleston for 6 days beginning 5/18. Should we visit Magnolia or Middleton? or another?

    Thanks for the advice!

    Magnolia or Middleton

I haven%26#39;t been to Magnolia, but we loved Middleton Place Plantation when we were there in April. middletonplace.org

The carriage ride tour through the grounds was very informative and well worth the expense and we were amazed at the gardens. Even without touring the house, we had a real sense of history from the existing ';working'; buildings, to the slave house with museum. Highly recommended!

    Magnolia or Middleton

mdtraveler: Thank you for your recommendation. We leave tomorrow!

    Middleton, definitely

We visited Middleton and were surprised to find we could have spent 6 to 8 hours there although we only had time to spend 3 to 4.

magnolia has way better gardens, so it%26#39;s better there during the blooming season ONLY in early april or march.

    Charleston SC Beaches

Are there any nice hotels on the Beach in Charleston, SC or the surrounding area?

    Charleston SC Beaches

Yes, there are...check out some of the other posts and they can name them better than I...but there are a couple on the Isle of Palms that are on the beach and there is one on the beach at Folly Beach. They are pricier than staying in town and driving to the beach (5 minutes away). Enjoy your trip!

    Charleston SC Beaches

Holiday Inn is right on the beach at Folly Beach, beside the pier. It%26#39;s okay but not the greatest beach, and the town is cute but small and limited in dining choices.

Wild Dunes resort on Isle of Palms. Isle of Palms is the nicest beach in the Charleston area. IMHO.

The very best beach in Charleston--maybe in all of South Carolina--is Kiawah. Isle of Palms is closer to downtown Charleston, as is Folly Beach, but neither of them compares to Kiawah as far as natural beauty. The problem is--it%26#39;s very expensive. The Sanctuary, one of the two hotels at Kiawah, is brand new and beautiful. I%26#39;ve never stayed there, though...the other, Kiawah Island Inn, is dated but the rooms are nice (I HAVE stayed there.)

The best beach in the area is on Sullivan%26#39;s Island.

If you want honesty..locals go to folly or sullivans and tourists got to isle of palm and wild dunes. Kiawah and seabrook are great but they are 45 mins from charleston.

but kiawah beach is all private except for a tiny stretch

Isle of palms beach is a long continuous stretch available to everyone... this is great for long walks and/or cruising chicks, but if you%26#39;re a lard arse and wanna sit on your fatazz all day then maybe go to a small private beach elsewhere. Personal preference, really.

folly beach is kinda funky but it has those terrible breakwaters every 200 feet or so that you must walk around.

nice place to visit for a day, but wouldn%26#39;t wanna stay (or live) there.

a further drive is edison beach (spelling)? which is maybe 90 minutes away... good beach, great shelling, and a lot cheaper to get a vacation home than any of the others listed. I%26#39;ve been there and would recommend it for value, of course it%26#39;s too far away for jaunts to charleston.

sullivans beach? that%26#39;s the only one i never done, thanks for mentioning it maybe next time.

BTW the water is good and clean (';blue'; code) at isle of palms. Superior cleanliness to most US beaches, no medical waste washing ashore like at jersey, LOL.

Thumbs up to isle of palms! But there%26#39;s a LOT of development so I%26#39;d be wary that it might be a real zoo there in summer!

    Moving to Charleston

My family is being relocated to Charleston and are going househunting soon. We have a real estate agent but was hoping to get an ';outside'; opinion on which areas we should explore (she%26#39;s after a commission check, after all). We don%26#39;t want anything suburban, no condos, and would prefer downtown Charleston. We have between 350-500K to spend. Any advice?

    Moving to Charleston

Most properties in the main historic district go for top dollar and would probably be out of your price range. An up-and-coming area in the city now is in the neighborhood surrounding The Citadel: lots of rehabbing and tear-down/rebuilding going on. West Ashley is the most economical - yet safe - part of town to be looking in. The trade-off would be that this is a ';suburban'; type area with small houses built in the %26#39;60s or later.

Be prepared (even in outlying communities) for school systems that can%26#39;t hold a candle to Chicago-area districts like New Trier. Unless you%26#39;re willing to shell out the bucks for private schools, comparison-shop the schools and house-hunt accordingly.

    Moving to Charleston

I agree with tommyc. The downtown area is top dollar. Even here in my neighborhood (l7 miles from downtown), they are starting townhomes --preconstruction in the $400s. I am not sure they haven%26#39;t raised the price since they put the sign up.

I built a house in Mt. Pleasant (suburban) two years ago from out of state, and housing prices have soared just in that time. West Ashley is a much more economical area. I chose Mt. P because I figured it would be the best investment for a house.

A lot of people here private school their kids. I think most of the schools in Mt. Pleasant in general are really good, but it is suburbia..and with tourism TONS of traffic. The traffic would be the downside for most people. To me the traffic jams are worth living in paradise. I LOVE Mt. Pleasant..but it is definitely not downtown. :)

I am from charleston, and you will have to send your kids to private school. Especially if you live downtown. Living downtown is worth the money so if you can I would go for it. Mt. Pleasant is a popular area however the traffic is terrible and the prices are just wrong. You will be paying for the name more than anything else. My friends parents are all selling b/c the amount people are willing to pay to live over there has just become outrageous. Both James Island and West Ashley have areas with extremely nice, and sometimes gated communities. Plus James Island is close to both the beach and downtown but without the traffic of mt. pleasant. It all depends on how much you are concerned with living in the ';in'; area. Many wealthy locals happily live elsewhere. If you don%26#39;t want suburbia then head downtown...you may have to pay a bit more...make sure that you have parking.

Also, if you can%26#39;t live downtown I would seriously consider looking at houses on the water.....once you get there you will wish you had a dock and a boat!

    Good Luck!

I know you want in the city, so I won%26#39;t push Mt. P., but it really is nice. I would do the same thing all over again. I just wanted to be closer to the ocean than some areas. As far as traffic, my neighbors work a lot in North Charleston..which isn%26#39;t too bad to get to.

I drive l7 miles to work, but I don%26#39;t go in during rush hour usually, so it isn%26#39;t bad. My colleagues all ask me how I can stand the traffic. Which does make me laugh. That is why I knew traffic might be an issue to you. The ones in West Ashley think I am nuts. Maybe moving here almost two years ago (it hasn%26#39;t changed significantly to me in that time)..and having lived in Houston and St. Louis, it didn%26#39;t seem that bad.

I just have to defend Mt. P. Moving here. I really do feel like it is paradise. Of course I am four miles inside my subdivision, so there isn%26#39;t much traffic ..and covenants are strict. I even found crawfish in my backyard. :)

I am sure there are lots of great areas. I just wanted to put in some praise for good ole%26#39; Mt. P. You are going to LOVE living in this area regardless of where you choose.

Thanks everyone! I%26#39;ll look downtown, Mt. P, and West Ashley.

I grew up in Charleston and my whole family still lives there. I am 24 and just moved away one year ago. All of the postings I have read have been true. My mom and dad live in a quiet part of West Ashely and love it. Also, it depends on which side of West Ahsley you are looking in. My Grandparents live in the older part and their 1500 sq. foot home is going for 350,000 but my parents 25000 goes for 200000. The traffic is not half as bad as Mount Pleasant and only a ten minute drive to downtown or Mt. Pleasant. Also, the other postings about the school system is true. Your children will have to be put in private schools. I was a private school kid and there are several great ones and now almost all of them have grants or scholarship money avaliable.

What is wrong with the school system that requires private schooling?

Also, is there a bad area in Charleston? We live in a suburb of Baltimore and considered moving to South Carolina because the housing prices are munch more affordable than Maryland. Baltimore City has some seedy areas that fight drugs and violence everyday. Are there areas like this in Charleston?

Also, for the best commute to the city -- would you suggest West Ashly and James Island?

The school system is not as horrific as people make it sound, especially in Mount Pleasant. Just like anywhere, there are good public schools and not so good public schools.

    Exactly, gator.

My son is a rising junior at West Ashley High and, other than it being HUGE, it%26#39;s a fine school. I agree that if you are going to live in many places here (downtown being primary), private school is the best choice.

As for Bet%26#39;s question - oh yeah, there are plenty of %26#39;seedy%26#39; areas in the area, and I ain%26#39;t talking farms.

I have heard that Baltimore is horrible for it%26#39;s crime, but all cities have crime. It%26#39;s just a matter of finding where the crime ain%26#39;t; or ain%26#39;t as bad. I wouldn%26#39;t worry much about the crime - just use common sense.

Hi my boyfriend and I are supposed to be travelling to Myrtle Beach the first week of september... we are thinking of staying in the Springmaid resort... but the reviews seem to be mixed!Does anyone have any good suggestions of where to stay...??

    really need help

Hi! I%26#39;ve grown up staying at Springmaid. It%26#39;s very family-friendly. Not plush, but reasonable. It has its own cafeteria as well as restaurant on the pier. It%26#39;s not crowded like most of the resorts at MB, but it%26#39;s not a party place, either. Hope this helps.

    really need help

I like coral beach or sea crest. They are owned by the same company.Coral beach has a comedy club, boweling alley, game room,2 bars one by the pool with live entertainment.Sea crest is really nice to with pool bar and they do Karokee and free breakfast.Next to family kingdom amusement park.I hope this helps.Any ?';S just post them.

Thanks for all suggestions... we were kind of looking forsomething a little newer if there is any that have been renovated! Weare definately looking into the coral beach or the sea crest... also we were thinking about the compass cove... anyone stayed there??

Hey...we just looked into the sea crest and they have a rule no one under 25.. I am 24... also the Breakers have the same thing... how are we going to find a good place if we are not going to be able to stay there?!?

Hey...we just looked into the sea crest and they have a rule no one under 25.. I am 24... also the Breakers have the same thing... how are we going to find a good place if we are not going to be able to stay there?!?

If you both are under 25 then you will only have a small selection of hotels to choose from.I think most of them even require big deposits.

Ithink bar-harbor.com will take you its supposed to be pretty nice And the yachtsmanhotel.com

will take under 25 in June you could ask about september. Holidaysouthoceanfront.com will take you.

Hey thanks for all your help!... we looked into Sea Mist they will take anyone 21 and over... anyone stayed there?? whats it like??

I stayed there once a few years ago.The rooms are not that great but I know someone who just stayed there and most rooms have been renovated.Make sure you get a renovated room. You are not in your room that much anyway you are on the beach. The hotel has a lot of great amenties waterpark on site,putt-putt,pizza and ice cream place. They do parties a couple times a week for families. They have Oceanfront bar with entertaiment.I know they have jacuuzzi rooms if your interested. They have a great package deal with tickets to Family kingdom.

camelot or caribbean, which is the best

i am going to pick one or the other. which one is closest to all the action? i need plenty of stuff nearby by for my three year old.

camelot or caribbean, which is the best

I think most will say Carribbean is better.Keep in mind nither have a lot within walking distance. The Carribbean charges resorts fees everday they do not tell you about when you book unless you ask about it.Your 3 year old will like there water area for small kiddies. They have a structure with buckets and things that drop water on them.

camelot or caribbean, which is the best

When I have stayed at the Caribbean, they have removed the resort fees when asked. They also have a 10% discount for booking online, or being a AAA member, but you have to ask for them at check-in, or call ahead and have them note it on your reservations.

Both hotels are close together, within a few blocks.

Sweetie Pie.. We stayed at Caribbean 2 years ago and they did not have the water type thing you mentioned. Would this be a new thing, did not notice it in Stay and Play either.

I think it is a new thing.

they call it children%26#39;s activity area and the kids just love it.There is a picture of it in my 2005 play and stay book if you want to see it.

Yes, I see it now, I guess I am getting old..Not true not true...44 is not old right! Well I guess it is if you are 24.

I am thirty four so do not feel bad.I have my bad days too.LOL

    family packages

I have been looking at family packages with hotel stays that include 16 tickets. Is this worth the money? Some hotels show a considerable difference in price when if I book just a room or get the package deal.

    family packages

I think it depends rather or not you want to commit to the package of events. We pefer just to wait til we get there and buy the ones we want.and do the shows we decide we want to do when we feel like it.After all we are on vacation.I do however know you can save money this way,but our family sometimes just rather stay on the beach or pool.I think it is something you should consider and talk over with the family.I would also consider what the tickets are for and the ages of your family members. If you have younger ones they are not going to want to sit thru a show.

    looking for a quite beach

I have a 3 year old so i need to know a quite not crowded beach to visit. My son wants to see fish so i plan to take him to see the ripley aquarium. We plan to visit in october. can anyone please recommend a nice quite but inexpensive place to stay at (prefer oceanfront)

    looking for a quite beach

if your looking for a quiet beach...go to Seabrook island,....or Kiawah Island..the most beautiful i have ever seen....there isnt anything inexpensive on the Ocean around here....the two islands I recommended are private and Kiawah has nature programs and activities for children...45 mins to the SC Aquarium though and the Ripley Aquar is in Myrtle Beach...October the rates are less everywhere and I here Nyrtle Beach has some fantastic oceanfront rates then...it might be really chilly though....good luck

    looking for a quite beach

Folly Beach in Charleston is not crowded..there is a fishing pier next to the Holiday Inn and great restaurants within walking

    distance of the hotel.

You mentioned Ripley Aquarium so I assume you are going to Myrtle. I suggest Litchfield Beach just south of Myrtle. Litchfield Resort has a variety of accommondations and in October you can get great rates. It%26#39;s a little slower in that area and the beach is the best on the Grand Strand. Best wishes!

    Resturants

I%26#39;ve eaten at the Marker 52 (I think that';s what it was called) in the Cherry grove section, several times before. Last year I went there again and it changed to ';The Marker';. Seems to be still as good. Does anyone have any better suggestion for a upscale type of Seafood place?

    Resturants

Try Broadway at the Beach, they have most every type of resteraunt that you could want...

    Resturants

Thoroughbreds(not sure about the spelling) is a great upscale place to eat in Myrtle Beach. I try to take business associates 2-3 times a year and I%26#39;ve yet to get a bad dish. It is upscale but worth every penny if you like good food and attentive service. They have a wide range of items from beef to top-notch seafood and an excellent selection of wines. Enjoy your stay.

We%26#39;ve been going to North Myrtle Beach for 20 years now and a few years ago dicovered a very special restaurant called Joe%26#39;s Bar %26amp; Grill in the Windy Hill section. It%26#39;s seems it%26#39;s a bit of a ';local%26#39;s secret'; , and I can%26#39;t blame them for wanting to keep it to themselves! Don%26#39;t let the name fool you - it is fine dining in a lovely surrounding. We now go whenever we%26#39;re in NMB for a special occasion. Last September we took our daughter and son-in-law to celebrate their first anniversary. Our food has always been wonderful. You can check out their web site at www.diningjoes.com. Hope you%26#39;ll give it a try and enjoy.

I%26#39;ve eaten there several times in the past . Great food and I love it! Just looking for some new spots. I don%26#39;t mind spending money on a good meal, but I find it hard to find good places to eat. So meny of the resturants that are avearge at best.

My husband would like to visit South Carolina and I haven%26#39;t done much research on it yet.

Thought you could all start me out. :)

Is there any snorkeling available at any of the beaches??

Where to stay - what area? We like areas that are not REAL crowded. Doesn%26#39;t have to be isolated or anything.

Close to a beach for swimming, sunbathing etc.

Looking for a condo with a kitchen etc. Thanks for any help.

    Never been before...

    Hi kukuinut,

Edisto Island is a nice place that%26#39;s usually not crowded. It%26#39;s popular with a lot of South Carolinians who don%26#39;t want the hassle and commercialism of Myrtle Beach. The only downside is that there isn%26#39;t much to do there, but it%26#39;s laid back and relaxing.

    http://www.edistochamber.com/

Charleston is also a great place to visit if you%26#39;re into history and want more of a city. Folly Beach is also there and is very nice.

    http://www.cityoffollybeach.com/

    Never been before...

we%26#39;ve lived in SC for 9 years now and absolutely love this beautiful state. If you are looking for quiet, you need to avoid Myrtle Beach. We hated it.....just like a carnival, circus, trashy, commercial, etc. YUCK!

Quiet is on any of the barrier islands. We do enjoy Hilton Head, but that may even be too much for you. Try Fripp Island, Isle of Palms. or Sullivans Island. Dafuskie (between Hilton Head and Savannah) is very , very uninhabited, but expensive. All the islands are top dollar, but you can break it down with big groups such as family reunions. No regrets though. This is island living at it%26#39;s best. Prepare to slow down, this is not California, this is South Carolina where the livin%26#39; is easy, slow, and delightful. Welcome!

    Bars at Carribean resort

    Caravelle or Carribean

    Hello,

My family will be going to MB at the end of July/beginning of Aug. We have a 7 year old boy and I want to make sure we stay in the resort with the best activities for his age. Please let me know if these resorts are good or if I should pick another one.

    Caravelle or Carribean

Hi Sam from Pa..also from Pa. here. Okay, we are frequent vacationers of Myrtle Beach and we have stayed at the Carribbean, rooms were very clean, they had a lazy river and know they have this kids (looks like a water play area) I stayed there about 2 years ago. We went down at the end of August. I never stayed at the other place but you could get reviews on the condo at this website to left of this page. You will enjoy your time in the MB area I know we do.. Any further questions..just ask...

Recommend - Atlantica I or II????

I have a reservation at Atlantica for the end of April and was wondering if anyone suggested I request a room in the Atlantica II over I. All the good reviews out there referenced bldg. II, but I wanted to see if anyone else out there had experience.

Recommend - Atlantica I or II????

Be advised that the hotel will require a CASH security deposit of at $400 and if you depart before 8:00 AM you will not receive your deposit when you leave. If you placed your reservations through a travel firm other than the hotel you may not be aware of this.

Regarding your deposit, they will MAIL you the check, possibly on the date of your departure or later if accounting can%26#39;t get to it. This is according to their Front Desk personnel. I was told this earlier this morning.

I was told that the resort is very nice. It would be fair to say that my experience with the front desk personnel about policy implementation (she hung up on me when I questioned the fairness of not sending the money out today) does not reflect the alleged beauty of the facilities.

Recommend - Atlantica I or II????

I would go with your idea and select the Alantica II. Because my an=unt and uncle stayed there sometime and they told me next time I should stay there because it was a blast. So I would go with the Alantica II. Have a GREAT time!

Thanks everyone! I was aware of the policy. I called the Atlantica on the day I made my reservation and asked if there were any additional deposits required. I booked through expedia and they do not tell you about this.

Stay clear of this resort I just returned from the Atlantica II

it looks nothing like it appears on the web site. Currently construction is going its very loud and very messy. Find a nation wide chain resort. I would not recommend anyone booking a vacation at this resort. Traveler beware.

    Help With Hotel Choice!!

Hello! My family and I are planning our first family vacation to Myrtle Beach this year. I have two son%26#39;s 4 and 8. I am trying to decide which hotel to choice seeing as there are SO MANY! I am down to Long Bay Resort, Compass Cove, Sea Crest, or Sea Mist. Has anyone stayed at any of these hotels? Are the family packages worth the money? I see that at Sea Mist for the family package you are staying across the street. Is there a difference? Is there a difference in the different buildings for Compass Cove? I am so confused! If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it!!

    Thank you!

    Help With Hotel Choice!!

Oh .... forgot to mention I plan on driving down from Michigan the week of August 14th and need a hotel that at least has a frig, microwave, and safe in room

    Help With Hotel Choice!!

The Sea mist package is a great value esp.if you are on a buget. You can upgrade you package to a oceanfront or view for extra and it may be worth it if you like to sit on your balcony at night like I do.They have many room types there so they do have ones with the items you request. If you do decide on Sea mist make sure you request one of the renovated rooms.I would call them directly. We have stayed at the sea crest also and I love it there also.they have the type of room you request.Neither one is the ritz but Sea crest is nicer but Sea crest is a better value and funner for the kiddies.

I just returned from Myrtle Beach! My family and I go about 3-5 times a year and we always stay in Kingston Plantation Embassy Suites or the Brighton Condos. They have a water park on the premises (fun for all ages) and it%26#39;s all located on the beach, with all rooms having ocean views (partial or full). The Brighton Condos are more expensive than the hotel, but is serviced by the hotel staff daily, includes a full kitchen, utensils, washer/dryer, master bedroom w/king, 2nd room w/2 doubles, 2 full baths, living room dining room, long extended balcony. They can be pricey, but search online for rates about $190 at the Brighton, and much less at Embassy Suites. Embassy Suites includes a breakfast whereas Brighton doesn%26#39;t.

Tip #1: refer to local newspapers and coupon books found at grocery stores, Wal-Mart, etc. for coupons at restaurants/activities. Also visit the site of the actual restaurant/activity for coupons.

Tip#2: Go to Wal-Mart and buy your own umbrella ($10-$20)and chairs ($7-$30). This helped our family as we spent $30 total for a good umbrella and 2 chairs, when it costs about $25 a day if you rent them from the lifeguard.

Tip#3: If you stay on the North Side, visit the Southern Market near Kroger%26#39;s Grocery Store for reasonably priced healthy/hearty food. We love this place, as there is something for all (soups, salads, sandwiches, macaroni, fries, chicken, seafood, coffee, candy, fruit, desert, bakery, ect.). Google the restaurant and check out their website for their daily menu, it%26#39;s worth it.

    Good luck!

Thank you both for replying to my post. I checked out the Plantation and it is a bit pricey for me at the moment. I will look over the Sea Mist brochure again and hopefully get my husband to help me. Anyone stay at Long Bay or Compass Cove?

We have been staying at Ocean Creek for 11 years now we rent through Ocean Creek.net. There are lot of pools (1) indoor and several outdoors, they offer several types of accommodations, NO Lazy river though. I also stayed at Kingston Plantation and that was very nice also. My aunt stayed at Long Bay and she loved it. We have 4 sons and they enjoy Myrtle Beach so much. Their ages are 15,14,8and3. You will have a great time.

That should read Sea mist is a better value and the kids will love it.

The Caribbean has nice areas for kids, and is reasonably priced. The Oceanfront 2 room suites have full kitchens, a bedroom with either 2 double beds or 1 King bed, and a living room with a pull down bed and sofa bed. They have kids activities during the summer and is very close to Broadway at the Beach (great family place)

We have stayed at Compass Cove for the past three years and love it! My family stayed in the 3 bedroom condo in the Mariner building. Your kids will love all of the water attractions-lots of lazy rivers, hot tubs, pools, and kiddie pools with fountains-indoor and out! There are also grills available beside the pools which is a nice touch. We have tried many places, but we have found our favorite. The breakfast buffet is wonderful and the lounge has great sandwiches. The rooms are spacious with a very large balcony. Staff is friendly and helpful. Enjoy your vacation!

thank you to everyone for helping me out! Can%26#39;t wait to go in August!

cgroves78edu,have you decided on where you are staying?

i have read on several posts about restaurant row - where is it and what type of food places do they have?

    restaurant row

It is along the Grand Strand..If you go to google and type in Myrtle Beach Restaurant Row or www.otgmag.com/restaurant they give a list of all the restaurants. I believe there are about 1,500. They have every kind of food you can think of..Chinese, Italian, Japanese your favorite chains.. I love Myrtle Beach, only 9 more weeks Yippee

    restaurant row

thanks mom4boys for the info. we are going in about 9 weeks also. i can%26#39;t wait but i feel like i%26#39;m wishing my summer away because shortly after we get back it will be time for school again.

Where did you decide to stay.. We stay at Ocean Creek and is this your first time to MB.

we are coming on a marriott time share preview (great way to travel if you can stand a 2 hour sales pitch). They are putting us at Brighton Towers in Kingston Plantation. We are paying under $100 a night. We have been to MB twice before but many years ago. The last time Hard Rock Cafe was just opening.

I stayed at Kingston Plantation about two years ago.. They have this water park there for the little ones (I would say up to age 12) anyway they charged us even though we were staying on property.. But after the second day I found a way around that. If you enjoy the Hard rock you will enjoy Jimmy Buffett%26#39;s Margarittaville. The food was good and it was so much fun.. It is loud but fun. If you like to shop check out the Grand COastal Mall I enjoyed that on a rainy afternoon. They also have a bunch of outlets near the Superwalmart.

the water park looks nice but our boys are college age - they pretty much just want to hang out at the beach and female watch!!!!

I hear you..My 15 and 14 year old are watching too..Last year I was sitting on the beach and these three young ladies spotted my oldest boy coming out of the ocean..and they say ';Look at the boy with the navy and white suit, he%26#39;s coming out of the water, he is sooo hot...'; So they are going on about my son and he comes out of the water and comes over by me..and the girls (obviously did not know I was the mom) and they were all giggling...And of course he got such a kick out of it..

i think young teens are so funny to watch interact with each other. i%26#39;m sure my boys won%26#39;t want mom too close to them at the beach. is the kingston considered mb or north mb. i looked at the calendar i only have 8 weeks to wait.

Its 10 weeks for me. I can%26#39;t wait. I hope we have a good year..We have been going for 11 years now, and last year the baby had a 104 fever, my husband got gout and pulled his shoulder out, Just about every year there has been some sort of crisis, I even tried switching weeks, 2 years before that older son was hospitalized with flu, and one year we fled Hurricane Bonnie.

    Anyhow, we keep going back...LOL

Restaurant Row is Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach - all types of food and venues. The big seafood buffets dominate.

    Condos in North Myrtle?

Has any one stayed at Sea Pointe? Or could you recommend a nice and clean condo (1-2 bedroom) at a fair price. Thanks so much for you help.

    Condos in North Myrtle?

You might try looking at www.vrbo.com. You can rent directly from an owner and save money. I would also recommend Sea Watch Resort.

    Condos in North Myrtle?

we always need 3 - 4 bedrooms, but at www.condo-world.com you can search their properties by number of bedrooms. They have some discounted specials going on right now.

can anyone tell me about cherry grove beach. I found several places through elliott realty to rent that is located there. Is this beach quite or nice. I have a 2yr old so i want somewhere that is not so crowded.(we will be visiting the last weekend on sept 29th-oct 2nd

any information on cherry grove beach

Hi, my aunt and uncle always stay in cherry grove near the fishing pier. They say it is quiet and not as crowded. They also deal with elliot realty and have not had a problem with them. Many people I know go though elliot and always enjoy themselves. You also chose a great time to visit, the kids are back in school and your rates should drop too. Hope your visit is safe and pleasent.

any information on cherry grove beach

A nice family place - but be aware that much of Cherry Grove is the most narrow part of the beach on he Grand Strand. Some places have NO beach access at high tide. It is northern most on the Grand Strand so you have to drive a ways to get to things in MB proper. It still has some nice places though.

I love Cherry Grove. My family has been going there ever since I can remember. It is a nice quiet beach community but there is still plenty to do right there in the area. We hardly ever have to drive to Myrtle Beach. I will be taking my family in September too. Have a safe trip and I hope you enjoy it as much as my family has through the generations!!

Windy Hill at the far south end of NMB is wider and if you stay near 46th to 48th there are fewer people than in front of the taller condo buildings. We went late Sept. two years ago and crowds were not a problem anywhere. Evenings can be a little cool that time of year so sweatshirts or light jackets/sweaters are a good idea.

Bike paths for Kids on or near Hilton Oceanfront Resort?

    Hi,

We are staying at the Hilton Oceanfront Resort in a couple of weeks, travelling with a 5 and 2 yr.-old. Is there a boardwalk or bike path along the beach on or near this resort, where my little ones and I can bike/scooter/roller-skate safely?

    Thanks.

    Samina

Bike paths for Kids on or near Hilton Oceanfront Resort?

There are bike paths throughout the entire island. I am not sure how close it is to the place you are staying at though. You can find a map of the bike paths on some of the hilton head websites. They are suppose to be really nice.

Bike paths for Kids on or near Hilton Oceanfront Resort?

I stayed at the Hilton last fall and did some biking around there. There weren%26#39;t any bike paths along the ocean, but you can bike on the beach. The sand is pretty packed down and your children will be OK riding on it (I%26#39;m a big guy so I sank, but my girlfriend had no troubles.) There are bike paths near the hotel, and all bike paths are connected to each other all over the island. While we didn%26#39;t bike on a paved trail on the beach, we did bike some nice trails near ponds, woods and beautiful houses. Make sure you get a good bike map at the hotel or from the internet.

Does anyone know about this hotel?

I am planning a trip there, and wanted any feedback I could get.

    Thanks.

    Holiday Inn Mt Pleasant

I%26#39;ve never stayed there but know tour groups stay there some so I assume it%26#39;s OK. It%26#39;s in a great location - not far from Patriot%26#39;s Point.

    Holiday Inn Mt Pleasant

BTW - you do know there is a video tour on this hotel%26#39;s review page right here on Tripadvisor?

    Court Capri

I know there have a been a lot of bad reviews on court capri but we have decided to take our chances and stay there. I have a few questions though. How close is it to where ';everyone is at';. We wanna be right in the middle of everything from june 11-16. If court capri isn%26#39;t near all the action, is there anyway we can just drive and park somewhere near everything?

This is for beach grad and we want to be near EVERYTHING...

    Comments appreciated.

    Court Capri

I have stayed at the Court Capri a couple of times. It is not a huge resort, but we enjoyed it. If you are in good shape you could walk to a lot of the downtown attractions in 10 minutes or so. My only complaint is that the roof-top heart shaped hot tub was out of order each time we were there. It is a good place for the money. If you want to go to Broadway at the Beach, you%26#39;ll probably want to drive.

    Court Capri

if your talking about ';nightlife'; all the hotels are 1 block from the ';main'; road where all the spots are. however that road is long and there are spots all up and down it. If you want to be in the area where everyone is walking around and hanging out. The court capri is at about 29th ave, and the action is south of 14th. so it%26#39;s a good 15 blocks.

Best Place to stay when under 21

I am returning to Myrtle Beach yet again for a summer vacation with friends. For my senior week in 2003 I stayed at Atlantic Paradise Inn and it is far from Paradise!! I have also stayed at the Tides and LOVED IT and I am thinking of staying there. The problem is my ex girlfriend and her friends had some problems down there last year. They said the staff would tell you that you couldnt have guest there and tell them to go back in there room late at night even when they were not being loud. I dont know how to take this because I have never had problems there but she has stayed there last since I have so things may have changes. I am looking for any suggestions. I know hotels that will let u stay at 18 are not as nice but I do not want to pay for a dump either. I will be 20 at the time of the trip. Thanks for your help!

Best Place to stay when under 21

I would try the Breakers Resort it is really nice and I loved it. The staff is nice there and the room s are clean(well the ones I stayed it) So I would try there and it is a perfect place for someone under 20.

    HAVE FUN!!!!!! :)~

Best Place to stay when under 21

I would serrioussly check with Breakers to see ';IF'; they%26#39;ll rent to anyone under 21 before comming down! A LOT of places here will not rent to anyone under 21 at all! Lately I%26#39;ve dropped a lot of young people off at the Camelot but then again i%26#39;d ask about the age thing before comming.... I have already this year taken some people around looking for a hotel which would rent to them because even though they had reservations they got there and was turned away due to they%26#39;re ages!

I stayed at the Atlantica last summer with a bunch of friends and they will allow people 18+ to get a room. Our room was realy nice...we had a bedroom with 2 double beds and a living room that had one of those murphy beds that pulls out of the wall and a little kitchen. We were ocean front and the view was amazing!

It is a little further away from the Pavillion than Tides, but still definitely walking distance. And they were not strict at all about noise or guests...we had people in our room almost every night and nobody ever said anything to us. I guess that might depend more on who is in the rooms around you and if they complain though.

The only down side is that the Atlantica is more expensive than the Tides. I checked out thier website and besides what you said about them possibly being weird about guests, I would say the Tides looks like a really nice place, especially for how cheap the rooms are.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I hope you figure everything out and have a great trip!

I read in another forum that the sea banks rents to 18 yr olds and its a nice place.www.seabanks.com. they also mentioned kingston plantation, and the sea gypsy 800-634-8125. I have also heard the Yachtsman will rent to 18yr olds in but only in June.hope this helps.

The Breaker and also Camelot will not rent to anyone under 25 check their website.

I just booked a room at the Tides Inn and Suite... Has any one stayed there? Hows is it there? Are u close to the action?

Freaky Tiki plays a lot of rap and hip hop and it%26#39;s a great club...you might want to try that.

Make sure you hit the piano bar (Crocodile Rocks) at Broadway... very entertaining!

crocodile rocks is awesome....my sister lives there, and goes every night! Her friends all play the pianos...aren%26#39;t they great?

Is Patricia Grand That Bad ???

I stayed at the P/G many times up until 1991 and will be returning back in a few weeks. I have read lot%26#39;s of reviews and I am starting to re-think going back. The hotel was nice when I was there. Has anyone been there recently and is it that bad?

Is Patricia Grand That Bad ???

My husband and I stayed there only once about 6-7 years ago but were very disappointed with it, likeitis. We thought that it was very dark, drab, and dreary. To us, it really looked like it needed updated. Also, the chairs on our balcony were covered in pidgeon droppings and when we called down to the front desk to ask if housekeeping could clean it up, they acted like they couldn%26#39;t care less. I think that we had to ask from something else too, but I can%26#39;t remember what is was. However, it was the same attitude. Like I said, it was 6-7 years ago, maybe they have improved the place and hopefully have a more responsive staff. I know that the general public isn%26#39;t always a joy to be around. However, I think that some of these people in the hospitality industry need to re-evaluate their career choice.

We are going to Myrtle the first week of May (prior to bikers week) and staying at The new Roxanne Towers. They just opened last fall and the rooms look very nice. There has only been 4 reviews written about them so far, but they were all very favorable. Why don%26#39;t you check them out? They are also running a 20% discount until May 13 (including weekends). Good luck and enjoy your vacation whatever you choose.

Is Patricia Grand That Bad ???

I was there a few years ago and it was nothing to brag about.......poor service and just not up to par with other resorts.(I would stay at the Crown Reef)

Me and some other family members all went to Myrtle last year (June 2004), and while me and my cousin stayed at another hotel, my aunt and her friend roomed at the Patricia Grand. Me and my cousin were frequent visitors of my aunts%26#39; hotel though! They had an upper-level room, and the way the hotel is set up is pretty cool...you can see all the way down through the middle of the hotel (which is kinda scary, if anyone drunk ever crawled up there on the ledge it would be SO OVER *lol*) but the view was spectacular, i read that another woman had a problem with the pools/lazy river, that there was actual bleach in the water and that her family%26#39;s bathing suits (and her hair!) all got *bleached* in the water and that she complained about it to management (to no avail) HOWEVER when we were there we suffered no ailments or mishaps, and the pool, view, guests, food, etc were all in perfection. The year before that though, we did stay at the Crown Reef, which is *fantastic*. The rooms were *exquisitely* clean and pleasurable, no bad odors or the like as with some hotels. The view was great, and it was a very nice stay. Have a good time wherever you stay!!

  • MB with teens

3 families with 5 teenagers and 2 pre teens heading to M.B. in June. Have narrowed search to Crown Reef, Sea Crest, Coral Beach Resort and Caravelle Resort. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    MB with teens

Please save yourself the dissapointment and do not stay at Coral Beach or Crown Reef! Both are very dirty, run down and BUGS are an issue! Never been to the Caravelle or Sea Crest so I cannot speak for them. I know the Hampton Inn Oceanfront (www.hamptoninnoceanfront.com) has gorgeous 2 bedroom suites with either 1 bath or 2 that will sleep up to 8 people. Very clean rooms, very friendly staff, great breakfast and free internet is included. Sorry, just being honest!

    MB with teens

We did have a problem with something biting us last year when we stayed at the Coral Beach Resort. I reported it to the front desk when we left that we thought the room had fleas.

The Coral Beach is beside the Sea Mist if that tells you anything. I have never stayed there but have heard bad reports lately about it.

We stayed at the Caravelle Resort a couple of years ago in May. Went down to the Winston All-Star race and decided to go to the beach for a few days. The first room we were in had a small problem. We asked for a oceanfront room but when we got to the room there was only a window to look out, no balcony. So be sure to check on that if you stay there. The other two familys that were with us got ocean view rooms on the south side of the building and they were just as nice and the rooms were bigger and much cheaper.

I also had a problem with billing and had to call and have it taken care of when we recieved our credit card bill, but they did make the refund.

The Caravelle is a nice place to stay but they have about 7 or 8 buildings so you will need to tell them that you want Direct Ocean Front and not side view or across the street from the beach. Two other nice places are Ocean Reef and Carolina Winds which is just down the street from the Carvelle.

    Hope this helps you !!!

Stayed at Crown Reef two years ago, it was very nice when we stayed there. The rooms were clean, the view was nice, and the property area was also very good. It was a very pleasurable stay and a nice trip. I have also stayed at the Bluewater, which I loved!! Our room had two trees with *lights* on them! And a big tv, with hanging plants, a private balcony, and a great view, plus the beds were seperate from the *living area* which had a futon and coffee table. Big bathroom too. The Bluewater is one of my favorite hotels at MB.

Have a great time wherever you decide to stay!!! Oh yeah, you should also check into renting a house on the campgrounds...I think it%26#39;s called Pirate%26#39;s Landing or something like that, my little cousins always stay there (ages 12, 8, and 6) and they always have a blast! The little houses there are so awesome, and they have golf carts to rent, lots of kids riding bikes, pools, a big play-time for kids...no worries because it%26#39;s really safe, there are lots of families there, Plus they have security guards at front entrance, and you must have a pass to enter.

    ~Good Luck!~

    quiet vacation?

I am interested in going to Myrtle Beach this summer, but it seems so commercialized. Is there any location on Myrtle Beach where it%26#39;s better to have a quiet beach vacation?

    quiet vacation?

North Myrtle Beach would be quieter than MB. However, if you%26#39;re really into just enjoying the beach, and a few laid back type vacation activites you may want to consider the Brunswick Islands, in NC. Sunset Beach is the closest to Myrtle Beach not far over the state line beyond NMB. Ocean Isle, Holden Beach, and Oak Island are north of Sunset. All these islands are very family oriented and offer a nice quite laid back beach vacation. We own a beach house on Holden Beach and love it there. If we want all MB has to offer it%26#39;s just an hour away. But at Holden and the other Brunswick Islands we have very little if any traffic and you won%26#39;t have to deal with crowds. On our causeway at Holden we have everything you need for a great vacation. A grocery store, movie rentals, bike and other beach rentals; a few gift/souvenir type shops, a few putt putt courses; arcades, a water slide, ice cream shops and several good restaurants. What more could you need?

    Best Wishes!

    quiet vacation?

We live at the South end of Myrtle Beach - actually Pawleys Island - and it is a very quiet area. If you don%26#39;t want the busy commercial part of Myrtle Beach, choose the North end of Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, or the South end like Garden City or the Surfside area. Here%26#39;s a link to hotels by area:

    http://funbeaches.com/condos_rentals.html

This summer I am staying at North Myrtle. We are staying at the Beach Colony Resort. I know that this may be the quiestest part of the beach but then again you are only seconds away form all the excitment. So i would stay at the beach colony resort if I were you since I am. Well I hope you have a good time. Have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Thanks so much for the advice! I appreciate it.

Myrtle Beach is a big party place in the summer for college kids! Older adults looking for a *quiet* vacation BEWARE!

    Market Street Pavilion

I am staying at the Market Pavilion at the end of April but am a bit concerned after reading a couple of negative user reviews recently. If any of you have stayed there, please let me know your honest opinions!

    Market Street Pavilion

I did not stay there, but just returned from Charleston yesterday. We walked by the hotel daily and it looked really nice. We even said we would consider staying there. I know this doesn%26#39;t help a ton, but enjoy!

    Market Street Pavilion

We have had a terrible experience with the Market Pavilion Hotel! We made reservations for Easter weekend, but the Wednesday beforehand, my husband went into the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. I called that day (his surgery was at 4:00 a.m.) to cancel and explain the situation. I was told only one person could waive the no-show fee, so I left him a message. He never returned my call. I called again that Sat. and spoke with him. He said he could not refund my fee because the directors had gotten strict about that. I asked to speak with one of the directors and was given the voice-mail of Elena Pelosi. I left her a message but she never called me back. On Monday I called again and asked to speak to someone else. They gave me the voice-mail of Nick Pelosi. I left him a message and he never called me back. Next day my husband calls and is put through to the voice-mail of Jim Pelosi (apparently the owner)--he never called my husband back. We were not only charged a no-show fee for the first night, but we were charged for BOTH nights! This is ridiculous--the charge and the lack of responsiveness. I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s a lovely hotel, but beware if you have ANY kind of problem and need someone to take care of it--I am beyond disappointed with their complete lack of service and will NEVER patronize them.

That%26#39;s pretty sad. In contrast to your experience, once when I had to cancel flights last minute due to spousal hospitalization, Air Canda gave us a 100% refund of our flight cost (even though we had no trip cancellation insurance), once we provided a copy of the medical record from the hospital.

What is the hotel%26#39;s cancellation policy? Most hotels everywhere charge one night for no-show of a guaranteed reservation, NOT the entire cost. Do a chargeback on your c/card and dispute their charge!

Thanks--we%26#39;re still trying to get an actual Market Pavilion person to call us back. If we don%26#39;t get satisfaction, we will definitely dispute the charge, if that will do us any good. They certainly know how to make a bad situation worse! :(

Update: We finally received a response from a manager at the Market Pavilion Hotel. Apparently, he%26#39;s only been working there a week, so maybe they%26#39;re actually going to get management staff in that will solve problems. While they aren%26#39;t going to refund our money, they are going to give us that credit toward a future stay. That is satisfactory, but we certainly had to go through a lot of angst and frustration to get to this point.

    Dear Charlestonlover,

My stay at the Market Pavillion happened a couple of weeks ago. Check out my review of it under the hotel reveiw section. Customer service still appalling. I am the most recent reviewer, May 05.

    Maria

My wife and I just spent a week at the Market Pavillion over Memorial Day and were absolutely disgusted at the lack of service. The staff was unresponsive at best and downright surly at times. The concierge floor is a joke with the cocktail hour consisting of one red wine and one white wine (neither of which could be identified by the attendant ), a bucket of warm beer, and a platter of three day old cheese. The rooms are very nice but not enough to compensate for the lack of ';southern hospitality';.

Hello everyone. We%26#39;re coming over 2nd part of June this yr. Just the two of us, 52(him) and 51(me!). Am enjoying all the forum comments. What are the must sees and do%26#39;s please? And, being female with a gorgeous 2 yr old granddaughter is it a good place to shop? Hope that%26#39;s not too frivolous a question.

My wife and I vist MB several times a year, somtimes with kids and sometimes without. There are plenty of things to do. Your grandaughter would like The Pavillion, oceanfront amusement park. There is Broadway at The Beach in MB and Barefoot Landing in North MB for all the shopping you could possibly do.

Plenty of great restaurants at both places.

If you haven%26#39;t done so, I suggest you e-mail or call the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. They have a free vacation guide they will send you that highlights all the different things to do and places to stay.

You cam also get a lot of info from the MB Chamber web site as well.

    http://www.mbchamber.com

You want to order the ';Stay and Play'; book which is free. It will give you all the info you need. Call 1-800 356-3016 as soon as you can and wait on the phone to talk to someone in person to order one. If not, you will not receive a copy for weeks. Good luck and remember as far as accomodations, you get what you pay for. Read the reviews on this site. I would recommend staying at the Longbay Resort or the Hampton Inn Oceanfront.

    good luck....hope this helps.

If this is your first trip to the U.S. and you are looking for beaches, don%26#39;t get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Myrtle Beach, but there are *a lot* of other fantastic beaches that you might like to visit. Destin, Florida is probably one of the most beautiful beaches *ever*. Plus it%26#39;s close to Orlando (Disneyland!) and Daytona, as well as St. Augustine, FL where there are a lot of historic places as well as Ripley%26#39;s to visit. If you go to Myrtle Beach though, *Make Sure* to visit the Pavilion, AND Broadway at the Beach...Broadway has some great deals, good food, and lots of fun and entertainment.

Try the Build a Bear at Broadway At The Beach, I know there is a similar place at Barefoot Landing... (At least there was last year).Anyway, if you are not familar with it, you pick your own stuffed animal and stuff it with a little help from store clerks...My 3 year old loves doing that. The Grand Coastal Mall is a nice place to shop along with all the outlets...Welcome..and have a safe trip.

    Tattoo Parolors

Tatooing is illegal in South Carolina. You will have to go to North Carolina. Many South Carolineans go past Little River on the border of North and South Carolina to Calabash. Right past Calabash there is a place called Fantasy Ink which many people recommend.

    Tattoo Parolors

No, there are tons of piercing places especially on Seaboard St.

Hey its me again.... this hotel thing is a really hard choice... my parents stayed in the compass cove years and years ago... and they really liked it but that was forever ago.. so I was wondering if anyone can help me out with what building to stay in... its just the 2 of us going so we dont need anything big!

If you absolutely MUST stay at the Compass Cove - AVOID the Pinnacle Building. This building is under construction. Personally, I%26#39;d avoid the resort completely.

    HELP-Trying to decide!

I am planning a last minute vacation for me and my kids, 4 1/2 %26amp; 2 1/2. I want to be close to activity and haven%26#39;t been to Myrtle Beach in several years. After looking at website, I am trying to decide between, Sea Mist, Sea Crest %26amp; Holiday Inn at the Pavillion. I like the offer of breakfast, unlimited bowling or unlimited mini golf. I really need input from vacationers that have been. I am only after a decent get away. I don%26#39;t expect the Ritz or five star. Those are the vactions I go on with my husband.

I also want to know if they are true to their word with park passes included or do you have to beg for extra amentities?

    Thanks

Oh, traveling last minute, June 21 or 22.

    HELP-Trying to decide!

I have stayed at Sea Mist and Sea Crest. You get the passes with no problem.Make sure you verfiy with who you book with exactly what you get so you know and you will not be disappointed. The sea crest rooms are nicer. The Sea mist rooms are not that nice but the waterpark and grounds are great for kids. They do tons of family grill outs, magic show, and other things. If you have any specfic questions let me know.I would be glad to help.

    Sea Park Motel-college students

Me and 3 of my friends are going to Myrtle this July. We stayed at the Atlantica last summer for our senior trip and it was wonderful but we are now broke college students so we made reservations at the Sea Park Motel ($75 a night). We don%26#39;t need anything great since we will only be showering and sleeping (hardly!) in the room but we are hoping it will be tolerable! We already made reservations so its pretty much said and done but I was still wondering if anyone has stayed there or heard anything about it. Please let me know even if it%26#39;s bad....at least that way I can prepare myself! I appriciate it!

    Sea Park Motel-college students

    anyone???

    Sea Park Motel-college students

I havent stayed there, but I just booked a room at the Ocean West Motel(Oceanwestmotel.com) for 5 adults and it is only going to cost $140 total for 4 nites, so that makes it about $32 a nite.... Just thought you might want to check into it since its so cheap and it looks pretty decent and the people sound very nice, also.

Wow, that%26#39;s really cheap! We already booked our room at the Sea Park, but I will definitely keep that in mind incase we go back next summer!

How big is your room at the Sea Park...we might stay there...I will be 21 so the beer supply to my friends will be in full force..do you know if they are strict on rules or not?

Basically all I know about the room is what is on their website (www.seaparkmotel.com) and from talking to someone on the phone, so I think it%26#39;s just a regular hotel room and it has a mini fridge and microwave. We%26#39;re hoping to squeeze 5 girls in there so we%26#39;ll see how that goes lol.

Part of why we booked a room there is because we remembered it from last summer...there were tons of college kids there all drinking out front and on their balconies having fun. So judging from that they hopefully aren%26#39;t too strict about noise, alcohol, etc.

The other reason we got a room there is of course the money. Between gas to get down there, food, and beer (like you said) there锟斤拷锟絪 not much left! We aren锟斤拷锟絫 picky but we锟斤拷锟絩e just praying it锟斤拷锟絪 not a complete dump.

Where should we stay? - three guys in their 30's

    Topic asks it all.

We%26#39;re looking to golf in the daytime (we%26#39;ll drive) and need to be at a resort on the beach with a pool. Hopefully there will be a beach/pool bar there for some cocktails while we bake (or can you take coolers on the beach?).

At night, we would like some lively nightlife. We are all single.

It looks like 1500N to 3000N Ocean Blvd is walking distance to good nightlife like Broadway and some clubs/bars on Kings Hwy. However, this area of hotels seems more geared for kids.

Or would we be better off staying at a distant resort (on the beach) and just take taxis to/from nightlife?

    Any advice?

Where should we stay? - three guys in their 30's

Try the Breakers they have golf packages.Gloria Hums sets up the golf for the resort.

Where should we stay? - three guys in their 30's

You will have to take a taxi to Broadway if you stay at the Oceanfront resorts or some of the resorts offer free shuttles to Broadway, etc. You can take a cooler on the beach but be discreet with your beer, put it in a coozie and you will be fine. Check out the Sands Ocean Club Resort, they have a good beach bar- Ocean Annies.

The Breakers is a good choice as is the Caribbean (they have golf packages that include breakfast at the Sea Captain%26#39;s House next door).

As for walking to Broadway, from Ocean Blvd. it is still about 1 mile or better, and crossing a busy 17 Bus.

This is our first trip to Myrtle Beach we are leaving in just 3 days. Yeah!!!

I was wondering what kind of wait time to expect at the restraunts. We have 2 small kids 3 %26amp; 1. Who are used to eating out but every kid has thier limit. Do any of the restraunts take call ahead seatting or reservations?

    Thanks

    Restraunt wait times

At this time of year I would expect a wait...It is a busy time in Myrtle Beach..You could always call ahead though...

    Restraunt wait times

I know Carolina Roadhouse (which is excellent) has great steaks, salads, baked potato soup, ribs and some seafood takes call ahead seating.

A lot of the restaurants offer ';Early Bird Specials'; starting around 4-5PM. Not only do you get a discount on the food, but wait time is shorter. This is a very busy time of year and some places could possibly have a 1 hour wait or even longer by 6:30-7PM. Have fun!

I know that most of the restraunts at Myrtle Beach let you call in because from JUNE- AUGUST Myrtle Beach in very bust especially in July but anyway they will let you call in ahead time which is called the EARLY BIRD SPECIAL I hope you have fun!!!!!! I am going in July and I know I will!

I am not sure how much fun you will have there. The resort is very family friendly. There are kids running around everywhere.I would suggest you dont act like a fool because you may find some angry parents getting on to you and your buddies. It doesnt sound like a place a college kid would want to hang out.Why not go to Daytona Beach and stay at the Desert Inn.That is a party hotel.go read the reviews.

Sea mist motel..for colege students this summer???

I%26#39;ve never stayed at either hotel but I looked at the Sea Mist%26#39;s website and it does look pretty family oriented. And I don%26#39;t know anything about the Best Inn and Suites but if someone you know says they aren%26#39;t strict I would go with that one becase nothing is more annoying than security knocking on ur door telling you to keep it down or that you can%26#39;t have guests! It also looks like it%26#39;s closer to all the action.

I stayed at the Atlantica last year, you might wanna look into that. They never bothered us about having guests or noise and their rooms are kinda like condos for 6 people but you might be able to squeeze 8. The rooms have a separate bedroom with 2 double beds, a living room with a murphy bed, a small kitchen, and of course a bathroom. The Poindexter is kinda the same resort but those buildings just have regular hotel rooms.

Me and my girls are going down the same week so maybe we%26#39;ll run into you guys! I hope you find a good hotel and have a great trip! Let me know if you have any other questions.

hell...we should just hitch the same ride..your leaving from Canton and we are leaving from Youngstown...rock on and have an awesome time! Where are you girls staying this year?

We%26#39;re staying at the Sea Park Motel (I%26#39;m the one that replied to your post about that). We%26#39;re actually going down on the 15th but that%26#39;s crazy I didn%26#39;t even notice before that you%26#39;re from Youngstown! Where do you guys go to school?

We all go to Youngstown State University...maybe we will run into you down there! We are staying for a week because we wanna get out of OHIO as long as possible...I actually leave for Las Vegas next week so maybe I can bank some extra cash for Myrtle....how many people do you have gonig with you? Guys? Girls? Both!
