Can anyone suggest a good motel or resort that would be appropriate for a middle age couple during bike week. We will be bringing our bikes to the event. We want ocean front if possible. Reading the reviews of the properties aren%26#39;t clear enough for us. We have stayed before at the Anderson Inn, the Firebird (now demolished) and the Mystic Sea. All were acceptable, but looking for something different. Thanks for any input!

Carolina Winds at 76th Ave. N. takes bikers and they are always really nice. Their staff enjoys seeing all the different bikes and really makes you fell at home. Their toll free number is 800*523*4027. When you call make sure you tell them you have bikes so that they will know so that they can make room for your bikes. :)

Condo near Convention Center

I am planning to be in MB the week of July 3 with my 9 year old daughter. I will need to be somewhat near the Convention Center, but would like to be on the beach also. Having never been to MB, would like some recommendations. I realize that this will be a peak time and don%26#39;t want to be too far from the Convention Center that I would be fighting traffic to get there. Please help!

The Breaker%26#39;s new place at 21st Ave N. would be the closest to the convention center but also there are lots of other places to. You amy want to look on here and look for the Aves of 17th N. to 30th N.

Our family of six have been to Myrtle Beach for the last couple of years but this year we decided to stay at a new resort called ';The South Wind';. The website certainly looks nice but since it just opened in the fall of 04 there aren%26#39;t any reviews. Has anyone stayed there? Or possibly a local that has seen the place? I am just curious.

The South Winds is breath taking. They are only renting a few of the units. They are all privately owned and are absoultely Gorgeous. I have been in the place once to pick up some info form them so that we could recommend them when we were full.

I just booked a week at the Captain%26#39;s Quarters. I%26#39;ve heard good and bad things about this place. It doesn%26#39;t seem to rank any less in quality of room than the others I read about. I will be taking three 15 year old girls.

HELP: Senior Week?

I am planning a trip for a group of Seniors, and I%26#39;m not really familar with the area. I heard that there%26#39;s a Senior Week the first two weeks of June. We will be there June 6-12. I need to know the hottest spots(clubs, attractions, cruises, etc.) We will be staying on Ocean Blv. I heard that was a great location. Thanks.

Yeah, you should definitely stay on North Ocean Blvd. between about 600-1400 blocks to be in the middle of everything. I graduated last year and a lot of kids from my school went the week your going.....there should be a ton of teenagers and college students.

You have to go to Freaky Tiki! It%26#39;s walking distance if you stay on the strip, which is nice, and there will be tons of people and they probably will have stuff going on for senior week.

I%26#39;ve heard Club Kryptonite is really good too. I haven%26#39;t been there but I plan on going this summer when I%26#39;m in myrtle. It%26#39;s at Broadway at the Beach and from what I hear you can take the Lymo Bus there, or take a taxi of course.

Other than those two clubs, you will just have fun walking the strip and meeting people. And I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll meet more people and find out where the hot spots are.

If I were you i would stay at The Beach Colony Resort it is the bomb. So I think the seniors would love it and it is away from all of the excitment but, in another way you are only seconds away from the excitement. Well have a great trip

Broadway at the Beach and Town Square (across from Studebaker%26#39;s on Business 17 at about 20th Ave. N.) are both great places to go for clubs and nightlife! Club Kryptonite and the Freaky Tiki are very fun as well!

When booking your Hotel make sure you tell them your age cause when you arrive and are under the age of 25 some will sit you out on the street. I am looking out for you. Also the clubs will require you to be 21 to get in the doors. Club K and the clubs at Broadway and Town Square are all like that. Here are a few hotels that will take seniors.... Sand Castle, The Beverly, Poindexter and other little mom and pop places.

Yes there will be lots of people in Myrtle the week of the 15th to the 23rd. It is New York and Rutland, Vt spring break during that week. The hotel we are staying at said that you need to mnake reservations really fast to get a room that week.

There is so much to do at Myrtle Beach anymore that you could spend a week there going to shows and walking through all the shops Broadway at the Beach,Waccamaw Pottery,The Outlet stores and about a thousand more. There is Myrtle Beach Speedway for the race fans, they have a race every week. You could play golf down there till you were so sore you would need another week of vaction just to recouporate. I%26#39;m not sure what your likings are but there are plenty of things to do without even stepping into any water (except for your bath tub)

I agree, there are tons of things to do in MB that does not involve the beach. Myrtle Beach is known for its many shows. Broadway at the Beach is a big shopping and entertainment complex. There you have a movie theater, the IMAX theater, tons of restaurants, Ripley%26#39;s Aquarium, many nightclubs, Margaritaville, a putt-putt course and much more. Myrtle Beach is famous for golf, both putt-putt and regulation courses. There are many outlet centers and malls for shopping. We have a new mall, Coastal Grand, which is very nice. Nascar Speedpark you can ride go karts. If you like to gamble you can take a casino cruise out of Little River. Huntington Beach State Park is nice and there you can tour the Atalaya castle. Brookgreen Gardens is a beautiful national historic landmark which features one of the most significant sculpture collections in the world! Of course there are MANY great restaurants. I strongly recommend Thoroughbred%26#39;s for an upscale, romantic anniversary dinner. I promise, you will find tons to do in Myrtle Beach. Enjoy your visit and have a Happy Anniversary!

Can you give me a little more info on the casino cruises? Are they any good or will they just eat your money very quickly? Not a big gambler but would like to try a little.

Hey there Francine: We also like the Casino cruises. The Sun Cruiz, in my opinion, is the best. The Southern Elegance is a smaller boat and it is very tight inside. I would suggest going during the day as it gets very crowded at night. My husband and I both won $250 each on the Wheel of Fortune machines. They have a great sit-down bar to go to if you either (1) get tired of gambling or (2) run out of money. They also have a place to sit and eat whereas the Southern Elegance you take your food and sit wherever you can (covered up casino tables, etc.) The Sun Cruiz also has a money machine where a lucky person gets to go inside a box and grab for money. I would also suggest driving if you can. They offer a pick up service at your hotel but it takes FOREVER to get there and back because of all of the stops. Hope this info helps. There is a new mall just down from Broadway at the Beach off of the 17 Bypass called Coastal Grand . It has lots of nice places to shop and also The Tanger Outlets are off Bus 17 just north of the Ocean Dunes and also Colonial Mall is north of there also and Barefoot Landing also. Night Life happening are Broadway at the Beach and several other good places around 21st Ave N .

Bike week begins on the 13th of May. You will see a few come in a day or two early but not enough where traffic will really be affected.

We stayed there once a few years back only because Dayton House ( next door) was full. It was okay, nothing spectacular, not as clean as we prefer but not bad. Just thought for what it cost at that time it could have been a little better.

Some suggestions for a novice!

I am a neophyte with respect to Myrtle Beach. We are thinking of making our venture to the area late August. We are a family of 5 (2 adults, G16, G9 and B9). We might or might bring our nephew, age 13.

Consequently, we are looking for accomodations with 3 bedrooms. I found what appears to be acceptable lodging so far at Forest Dunes and Ocean Reef that seem reasonable. Are these OK places to stay or can I do better for less that $1300 for a week?

I dont know much about this hotel except the trip advisor reviews and the web site. but the bar harbor resort has offered me a 3 bedroom oceanfront suite for 10 days 1570.00 total with tax. good location near family kingdom and 6 blocks from pavillion. has anyone stayed there recently?

Avista, Breakers, LongBay, Sea Crest and Landmark resorts.

Can anyone tell me how Landmark is?

They gave me a great rate for oceanfront room.

If in you budget I would suggest Kingston plantation which they have the choice of condos embassy suites or hilton.The have a nice waterpark for the kids.If you are on a budget I would suggest Sea mist resort in Myrtle beach.They have so much for the kids they will not want to leave.

Has a water park at hotel(large), free tickets to another water park and amusment park thats right next door thats included with room, unlimited visits for every body in room, arcade, ocean front. Just a really nice hotel with all entertainment included check this out wont regert it. seamist.com. I%26#39;m going back again this year! no complaints at all!

I%26#39;m thinking about spending a week at Harbor Island renting a house in May. Does anyone know what it%26#39;s like there? Will the water be warm enough to swim in in May? Is the beach small? Seems like a great area since it%26#39;s so close to Beaufort, Savannah and Charleston, but no one writes about it.

Harbor Island is beautiful if you just like to relax. I%26#39;ve been going to Hunting Island (next island over) for 30 years. It is very natural, peaceful, and serene. Don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be doing any swimming in May, but the ocean and beach is still beautiful to see. You should definitely visit Savannah and Hilton Head Island while you%26#39;re in the neighborhood. I hope you have a fun trip!

I%26#39;ve lived in Beaufort for almost 30 years. We homeschool our three children and one of the benefits of homeschooling is that we finish at the beginning of May so that we can go to the beach!!

I love the beauty and serenity of Harbor Island. It%26#39;s very private. In May, you will need a jacket at night because it will be windy, but you should have awesome warm dys. It should be warm enough to swim.

Do yourself a favor and be sure to eat at the Shrimp Shack. They have the best shrimpburgers!!

Poindexter, Catoe Villa, Sea Crest - none of the above?

My boyfriend and I are looking for a place in May in Myrtle Beach that is inexpensive but clean and reasonably quiet, and within walking distance to the clubs and beach. The budget options I have seen so far that fit these criteria are the three above. After reading the reviews of the Poindexter I%26#39;m a little wary. We don%26#39;t care about the pools or dining facilities - I just don%26#39;t want to feel like I need a proper delousing after I stay in any of these places! Thanks!

The Poindexter is part of a resort that also includes the Atlantica, which has more condo type rooms as opposed to the Poindexter%26#39;s regular hotel rooms. I stayed at the Atlantica and my room was fabulous...very clean and updated and great view of the ocean. My sister and her boyfriend stayed at the Poindexter and theyre room was decent but not as nice as our%26#39;s was. We think this was because it was a smoking room though....there were burns on practically everything but other than that the room was pretty nice. So I would say you would probably be safe going with the Poindexter if they can guarantee you a non-smoking room....even if you smoke, I think it would be a good idea so that you have a better room. For people under 25 (I%26#39;m not sure if you are) this hotel seems to be the best one for the best price I have found. It is also in a perfect location for going to most of the clubs in myrtle (Freaky Tiki and Mother Fletchers are both in walking distance and from what I understand you can take the Lymo Bus to Club Kryptonite) and it is right on the beach. If you have any other questions just let me know!

Breakers Paradise, Caribbean, or Dayton House?

We stayed at the Paradise for New Years and loved it. It%26#39;s only a few yrs old and if you are looking for NEW - try Roxanne Towers (just completed last yr) Another excellent choice is Camelot. We%26#39;ve stayed at the Camelot and are going back this August. All 3 of these are in the same area close to Pier 14.

I have been posting similar requests with no response. I spoke with the hotel and they told me that you definitely need a car. I booked through Thrifty and signed up for their program and got a full size car includuding taxes for 7 days for $170.00 total. From what I%26#39;m told we are at 82nd street and most of the action is down in the thirtys(Broadway at The Beach, ++) The Marriott is pretty new so it wasn%26#39;t there the last time I was there for golf but I do recall very good meals at Carolina Roadhouse and Carrabba%26#39;s.

You will need a car to go to any attractions from the Marriott.

It is in one of the areas that is not so congested. But it is pretty new and I heard that it is nice.

It is real close to Dixie Stampede and The Carolina Oprea.

If you spend a day shopping you should at least go to Broadway at the Beach one time. Thay have lots,and lots of different types of stores and restaurants and shows,and well here check it out for yourself.

This is mainly for RobertD. I have just spent 4 days at the Marriott Grande Dunes without a car. Since I am a beach person, I didn%26#39;t miss a car too much. but the weather was nasty for two of the days. We did take the trolley which picks up at 79th and ocean down to Broadway at the beach one afternoon. It was a $1 each way. The trolley passes every 30 minutes. We used it also to go eat at Sea Captains one night.

The marriott is a very nice hotel but terribly expensive. Since you (RobertD) will have a car, stock up on drinks and snacks to have in your room. You are very limited in where or what to eat at the resort. They do have a wonderful breakfast buffet for 12.50. To rent beach chairs on the beach is 25.00 a day for 2 chairs and a covering.

the pool area is very nice and they have a really neat waterslide for the kids.

In the mornings, they did have apples, oranges, water and towels out for the walkers and joggers.

It is in a fairly secluded area, but that is something I do like at the beach.

The spa%26#39;s prices are pretty high. If you get any of the spa services, you are allowed to use the steam and sauna room. Otherwise it is 10.00 a day. Internet access is 9.95 a day, but if you go to the business center, it is free. (I had brought m computer, but instead of using it I just went to the business center.)

The gift shop is very small (I thought ) for a resort and very expensive also.

We will be going to Myrtle Beach sept 10-17. What will the weather be like, and will the seafood buffet places still be open? Also will we still be able to go out and see the dolphins on one of the boat rides? Thanks for all help.

Temperatures in Mid-September will be about 75-90. Most restuarants in Myrtle Beach are open year round. I%26#39;m not sure, though, about the boat rides. Sept 10 is the first week of the off-season, so you can probably find a few tourist attractions still open.

Mid Sept will be wonderful as far as crowds,and otherwise......but oh and it%26#39;s a big ';OH';, you have a big threat for hurricanes and storms. Even the ones that hit Florida last fall, managed to affect the Carolines with strong winds and rain. The Big Hurricanes that have hit Myrtle, like Hugo and David came in Sept. And there are no life guards on duty..........it%26#39;s everyman for themselves !!! Rates are cheaper though.

I have a temporary reservation at Landmark, oceanfront with 3 Dbls and full kitchen at a great rate. Time is running out and I need some opinions on the location, pool complex, oceanfront rooms.

I am also considering Avista, Sea Crest, Longbay and Breakers.

Is the pool complex really crowded? or are all pool complexes crowded in the summer? How is the lazy river in comparison to other hotels?

Does anyone think that the other places are much nicer?

We are planning a trip in August and my mom who lives in myrtle beach has been checking hotels for me. So far The Landmark has been the dirtiest hotel she has seen. coral beach resort not much better. carribean resort , summer wind and roxanne towers were clean and very nice. especially summer wind. She also liked sandy beach resort -magnolia building. sea crest wouldnt show rooms she went twice without luck.

I copy %26amp; pasted this from where redcocomo responded to you on another forum. I agree, Sun Cruz Casino is a great and very fun. You can get coupons from hotels or call the casino directly and they can give you coupons which include free boarding and the buffet for free. It is so much fun!

Hi: We%26#39;re a family that will be going to Myrtle Beach for the first time this summer. We%26#39;re staying at Harbour Lights Resort (if anyone has any comments, I would appreciate them). I understand it%26#39;s around 5 miles to the beach. What is the parking situation at the beach. Plenty available? How much? Etc.

There are not many places to park right on the beach unless you are going to the pavilion, they have a parking garage there. There are some small lots on the beach for public access but they are small. I%26#39;m not sure if you wanted to know about parking to shop or if your going to lay out on the beach.

The one comment I can make is you will tire of the traffic on 501 getting into and out of town. It%26#39;s a real bear. I agree with the the other post about not missing Medeival Times- great show and great food.

I would suggest the Sandy Beach Resort. It%26#39;s located just far enough south of the Pavilion area to avoid most of the traffic and noise. The rooms in the Magnolia building are nice, spacious, have kitchens and are all oceanfront. The hotel has multiple pools, hot tubs and a small lazy river. The lazy river, one pool and one hot tub are under the building if you want to seek shelter from the sun in the middle of the day. Navigating from here is a breeze without ever having to get on Hwy 17, 501 or Ocean Blvd you can go almost anywhere and avoid the traffic. There is a convenience store across the street, Family Kingdom amusement park across the street, the areas only oceanfront water park next door, some dining options within easy walking distance and 2nd Ave. Pier is a very short walk on the beach. We%26#39;ve stayed here many times over the last few years and have enjoyed every stay. Families and couples only.

Caribbean Resort?

My fiance and I are planning an August honeymoon to Myrtle Beach. It will be our first time in the area and we are considering Caribbean Resort. Does anyone know if this is a nice hotel? Or any other suggestions? We are in our early 20s and just looking for a clean, comfortable hotel.

We stayed at the Caribbean the last two years and loved it. They are consistently ranked 8 or 9 out of all MB hotels here at Trip Advisor, and deserve it. Clean rooms, nice staff, great central location (very close to Broadway at the Beach). The Sea Captain%26#39;s House restaurant next door is great, esp. the breakfast buffet.

Well first-off ...Congradulations!!

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Caribbean a couple of times and didn%26#39;t have any problems. As cmandd said the Sea Captains House is right beside it and servers really good food. They also have a huge spotlight that shines out on the beach at night (great for walking down there at night)

Another great thing is that your right at the end of Myrtle Beach, there is only 1 more motel north of the Caribbean and then it%26#39;s all private houses for about a mile. Makes a nice place for a little more privacy. There is a lot less traffic on that end of the beach to. There also a couple of good places to eat breakfast within walking distance of your place. Try Harrys for some good morning food. Pier 14 just down the beach is nice for lunch or dinner and you have to go to Drunkin Jacks at least once while your there.

We jsut came back from there. We like the carribbean al;ot hwowever it is pretty mcuh a nice family hotel Not posh or upscale if that is what you are looking for. It has a great pool and beach area . The only thing I found is alot of the stuff we use to walk to liek the grocery store and a few shops have closed and moved to other locations. It is not as handy as it once was. Room s are clean and newly decorated. I was dispapointed in the restaurant next door the sea captains. It is rated #1 but we have gone there for years and found the serice poor and not up to par. May be a good place for breakfast though

I have been going to Myrtle Beach for many, many years. My family has always stayed at the Caribbean. My husband and I are now going to the Caribbean. It is a wonderful resort with a great location. Make sure you ask for a room above the pool, you don%26#39;t want to hear kids yelling in the pool all the time!

After reading hundreds of reviews on myrtle beach hotels I booked a suite at the caribbean resort . I got my confirmation letter today only to find out 1. They do not guarentee room choices. 2. They charge you a fifty dollar resort fee in addition to room rate and taxes. 3. If you decide that this is not to your liking it costs 20% of your deposit to cancel.

I%26#39;ve never heard of a resort fee, you should check into that. Also there shouldn%26#39;t be any charges for cancellation unless it%26#39;s with-in 7 days of your arrival date. Sometimes resorts charge $25 if its less then 14 days but not less then 7 days.

Dear eagleglawz called resort the resort fee is new it started in Jan. 5.00 per day to cover wrist bands for pool and parking.I was planning 10 day trip so 50.00 resort fee. also 10% fee for all cancellation prior to 2 weeks and 20% after that.

Thanks for the info on resort fees. That was the first time I had heard of someone being charged something like that. You would think the $100 - $200 a night would cover that...LOL...

I bet with a little constructive complaining you might be able to get them to drop that charge. Since there are so many other places that don%26#39;t use it to swendle more $$$ from the people that keep the bread and butter on their table.

We%26#39;ve used VRBO several times for vacation rentals all over the country. We have friends who have used it too. We%26#39;ve all never had any problems, the owners have all been great to work with, and the properties have been as described. We are even considering dropping the management /rental company that manages our beach house at Holden Beach, and do it ourselves through VBRO. (Rental companies fees are just getting ridiculous, plus the extra charges for everything. Example: charging the homeowner $35.00 to come change a lightbulb!)

As with anything like this, I make sure I have everything in writing: what%26#39;s expected to be at the rental?; what%26#39;s expected of you?; what you should bring?; what their hurricane evacuation policy is? (if manditory evac. do you get your money back?); if there is anyone locally who will assist you if there are any problems?; what condition are you to leave the property?, (do you clean or is there a cleaning crew?) etc.

According to the visitors bureau (i phoned), you%26#39;ll probably have to pay-park in garages. About $10/day or $2/hour.

If you%26#39;re very lucky, you might find a meter to park at for 25-cents per half-hour. Some have only a max time limit of 30 minutes though. They said parking is scarce on evenings %26amp; weekends.

I%26#39;ve been to Charleston many times and usually find free parking along the battery.I really enjoy walking anyway and walking around Charleston is a great way to see the city. The last time I was there it was only $6.00 to park all day at a few lots.

There is free parking along the battery, but it can fill up on the weekends.

Weekday parking in garages is usually $6.00 for (I think you have to be out by 7:00 p.m.) If you are there past 7:00 there is an additional charge.

Magnolias, Cypress and Blossom have free valet parkinmg for dinner on East Bay Street.

The best (most convenient) parking garage is at the Corner of Cumberland and Church Street. (Take a left on Cumberland from Meeting or a right on Cumberland from East Bay) This garage is very centrally located to the market, battery, King Street Shopping.

If you want to be closer to King Street Shopping and the Battery, then park in the garage at Meeting and Queen Street. This will save you a couple of blocks toward King and Battery, but is a couple of blocks farther from the Market.

Avoid the parking Garage behind the Doubletree (It is the most expensive one in town!!!)

I find garages are more reasonable than pay lots -- Pay lots charge flat fee even if you are there on short time.

Do not park in areas marked ';Residential.'; The folks that live in those areas tend to have plenty of time on their hands to call the parking nazis and they know who normally parks in each spot!

We ended up exchanging our timeshare for the Island Club at Seawatch which is on Folly Field Road. (There weren%26#39;t too many openings for Hilton Head timeshare exchanges).

Looking at a map of the plantations, I see that Island Club is not on one.

A couple of questions:

Will I still be able to get onto the plantations though for sightseeing, dining, shopping, etc. or are the plantations restricted to guests and residents only?

Give me a few sentences that describe a ';plantation';. Is it like a self-contained area with resorts and private homes, grocery stores, dining, etc. or what?

It depends which Plantations or ';Gated Communities.'; That%26#39;s what a Plantation is ~ a Gated Community. There are some Residential Gated Communities or Plantations that you won%26#39;t be able to get in on your own. You can get into Sea Pines Plantation (which has a lot to do %26amp; see) for a $5.00 gate pass. Also there are a couple like Shipyard %26amp; Hilton Head Plantation that you can get in if you%26#39;re going to a restaurant or at the Hotels there.

We went to the Hilton Head Plantation to see a historical site. We had to tell the security guard at the gate where we were going and he gave us a pass to put in our car window. The site was right next to the Old Fort restaurant.

After breakfast one morning at Sea Pines (Harbor Town), I mentioned to the waitress that we were going to see a particular plantation, hoping there would be a lot of history there. She smiled. ';Good luck, honey, those are gated communities.'; I guess it%26#39;s like naming a housing tract after the forest you destroyed to build it.

If you want to see a plantation, it%26#39;s quite a bit south but Hofwyl-Broadfield is a real winner.

We were in Hilton Head last week and wanted to go biking in Sea Pines Plantation. We had paid $5 the day before to go by car so figured they would probably charge $1 or $2 per bicycle. Wrong! The guard said you are not allowed to bicycle in Sea Pines unless you%26#39;re staying on the plantation.

So we rode our bikes from Forest Beach (where we were staying) along the beach to Sea Pines and turned in an entrance path when we knew we were well past the guard gate. (There%26#39;s a path about every ';block'; or so.) There was a sign saying ';If you%26#39;re not staying in Sea Pines Plantation, you are trespassing.'; We figured security wasn%26#39;t going to stop every bicyclist and ask for some kind of pass, so we ignored the sign and had no problems.

We also bicycled into Shipyard Plantation to check out the tennis courts. The guard let us in when we told him what we wanted to do--it was the truth but I suppose you could make up something that sounds plausible. We could have exited the Plantation through the public beach area, (almost next to the tennis courts we later found out), ridden back along the beach to our rental house in Forest Beach, and saved ourselves a lot of time. I%26#39;m not sure if you can get in that way or not.

We were in Palmetto Dunes Plantation to golf, but the guard gate is past the entrance for golf. I%26#39;m not sure if you can get into Palmetto Dunes from the beach by bicycle--I didn%26#39;t see any paths when we rode along the beach, but we weren%26#39;t looking to enter. There must be some paths to the beach from the Palmetto Dunes area, however.

The Forest Beach area is not a part of a plantation.

Place to buy seafood

We%26#39;ve been to Hilton Head and planning on going back this summer. I am looking for a place to buy seafood that we can take back to our condo and cook it. I didn%26#39;t see one last time but I know they have to exist there. Do you know where any seafood stores are or stores that sell cooked and raw seafood?

We were in HH last week and bought all our seafood at Fresh Market. If you are familiar with Whole Foods stores, it was very similar.

Everything in the fish case is marked fresh or frozen. We only bought fresh--and everything was very fresh!

As for cooked, they did have cooked shrimp as well as some other cooked fish in their cooked food area. They also had wonderful gourmet chicken breasts stuffed a variety of ways ready for cooking.

Fresh Market is located on William Hilton Pkwy. near the entrance to Palmetto Dunes. We did most of our shopping there, even though we were staying in Forest Beach. We had several gourmet cooks in our group so we cooked every night but the last night. The produce at Fresh Market was outstanding as well.

I saw some seafood stands along WH Pkwy. but they never seemed to be open.

The Surfside Beach/Garden City area that is a little south of Myrtle Beach is less crowded but still a short drive and there is a lot to do in that area also. There are diffiently some tricks to getting around at Myrtle Beach in the summertime.

Here is an excellent map from Yahoo - It has the majority of properties on it. Just click at the top and the bottom of the coast line to move the Map north and south. You can highlight each condo property by rolling your mouse over the orange bed. This will give you a feel of the entire myrtle beach coastline and where each property resides.

More than likely yes because July is the busiest season and downtown has the most teenage things to do.

You said that this an important criteria for you in your selection so why even take the risk of staying downtown? I would look in the area of #3 on the prior post - about 2 miles north of downtown - or properties that are on OceaN Drive between 70th %26amp; 98th Ave. NORTH - consider all the way up to the Seawatch North. This will put you only 5 minutes away from downtown for when you and the kids want to go to the downtown tourist activities. The beach is also excellent in this area to. See the Map above.

Finally - you say you are going in July - That is the busiest season with the most people - The Local Myrtle Beach Paper has said that this summer season will more than likely set a record for tourism - that means tough to get reservations and maybe higher prices later? - I would not wait too much longer to book your room so that you can ensure that you get something that you will like.

Also - I highly recommend getting a DIRECT Oceanfront room. Just sitting there with your deck door open and on the deck listening and seeing to the ocean is maybe the best part of a week vacation for everyone.

I would suggest the Sandy Beach Resort. It%26#39;s located just far enough south of the Pavilion area to avoid most of the traffic and noise. The rooms in the Magnolia building are nice, spacious, have kitchens and are all oceanfront. The hotel has multiple pools, hot tubs and a small lazy river. The lazy river, one pool and one hot tub are under the building if you want to seek shelter for the sun in the middle of the day. Navigating from here is a breeze without ever having to get on Hwy 17, 501 or Ocean Blvd you can go almost anywhere and avoid the traffic. There is a convenience store across the street, Family Kingdom amusement park across the street, the areas only oceanfront water park next door, some dining options within easy walking distance and 2nd Ave. Pier is a very short walk on the beach. We%26#39;ve stayed here many times over the last few years and have enjoyed every stay. Families and couples only.

Ocean Course vs. Palmetto Dunes Robert Trent Jones

Has anyone played both of these courses? Which one would you play again? Which is more scenic? Any other courses you would recommend?

We are looking for a scenic course to play in early April that would accommodate a group of us with varying abilities.

have been going to hilton head for 15 years, for the money i would suggest the jones course at palmetto dunes for a number a reasons. it%26#39;s a great layout and since they have redone it a couple of years ago it%26#39;s in great shape. also the jones course is centrally located on the island and unless you are staying at sea pines, thats a plus. also to go to the ocean course there is a gate charge just to get in the place. although there is plenty of water on the jones course, there is lots of water in play on the ocean course. if you have any questions you can shoot me an email.

My 94 mother-in-law wants to ride along in a cart. At the RTJ course at Palmetto Dunes she can ride for free, so that%26#39;s another plus! At Sea Pines, the charge is $27. Both charge $95 for green fees after 12:00 (Palmetto Dunes) and 1:00 (Ocean Course).

Is the $5 charge to get into Sea Pines per car or per person?

If we decide to golf a second day, do you have another course you would recommend?

I%26#39;m heading down to HH at the end of April and just read a horrible review (on this site) of the courses at Palmetto Dunes. I see you made a tee-time there and was wondering what kind of condition the course was in. The rates seem fair and the staff seems accomodating, so I hope the golf was up to ';par';.

I thought the course was in great condition. When was the negative post made?

The staff was very friendly. The scenery along the way was beautiful, and I thought the holes were interesting and challenging. The pace was good--we didn%26#39;t feel pushed nor were there long waits on holes. I think we finished in five hours--a little behind the 15 minute recommendation.

I usually golf in the 110-120 range. I am a woman using the women%26#39;s tees, and they were well placed for me. My husband scores in the 80s-low 90s--he played the white tees. The greens are well protected by sand traps, but I usually managed to get out in one shot. Maybe because I had so much practice after a few holes. :)

My husband did much better on the back nine when he wasn%26#39;t bothered by noise from the highway. That was the only negative for him (I didn%26#39;t notice it until he pointed it out because I tend to block out noise). Three holes in a row on the first nine run along a main highway, and it is noisy from the traffic.

We played after the first rate change--I think it changes at 12:00 noon, so our green fees were $95. Our son%26#39;s wife does not golf but she was able to ride with him in a cart for no charge. Some courses I called charged $25-$30 for a rider.

I would recommend this course unless you would be overly bothered by three holes of noisy traffic.

I don%26#39;t know when you are going and I hope I%26#39;m not too late... My son is handicapped and uses a wheelchair and Charleston is one of our favorite vacation spots! Most of the city is very accessible. Sometimes you have to ask how to get in--but most places are easily accessible. The Exchange and Provost Dungeon (from the 1700%26#39;s) has an elevator inside. They will have to let you in the back of the building. The front side toward the street has steps. There is usually an employee near the doorway just ask them to have someone let you in the back (the side closest to the harbor). Most of the sidewalks are cutout and accessible, although the cobblestone streets get a bit rough...sometimes the sidewalks may have some rough cracks too. They are passible, just bumpy. We like to stay at the Sleep Inn. It is 3 story with indoor corridor, has ADA rooms and has an elevator to access all floors. Also, free continental breakfast. Most walking tours are accessible. Also if you go to Ft. Sumter--they will load you on the boat. The fort itself is accessible. Ft. Moultrie on Sullivan%26#39;s Island is also accessible. Hope you have a wonderful time. Market okay too.

I think you should consider sea crest or sea mist you daugher would enjoy the kiddie pool at the sea crest.It has a small frog slide and mushroom.It is underneath the resort but still can look out over the outside pool area and beach which is nice since she will not get sun burned.They offer a cont. breakfrast which is good which saves time and money in the a.m.If you stay hear make sure you get oceanfront as the rooms facing the small parking area and office are not as nice.If you have any other questions let me know.I would be glad to help.

I looked in my Myrtle beach book Bar harbor is listed address is 100 north ocean blvd.their website is www.bar-harbor.com If you are looking for a nice budget hotel for little ones you should try sea mist I got a brouche in the mail today looks like you can get a package deal there cheap.You get room with 2dbl beds, daily passes to sea mist waterpark ,miniature golf unlimited use ,one free breakfast buffet for the family ,and daily passes for family kingdom amusement park starting at 450.00 for 5 nights.they have the package for all night stays their website is www.seamist.com I do know from experience it is chaper to call the resort.the waterpark is heated and has nice playground for kids.

You asked about good seafood restaurants in Murrels Inlet.

Drunkin Jacks is very good, a little pricey but you get a fair portion and it%26#39;s fresh.

Also there is Nances and Dockside Daves that I%26#39;ve heard good reviews about.

If you want to try something different go to Pier 14 on 14th Ave North, right behind the Yachtsman Hotel. The restaurant is out on the pier and the food is good.

I saw where someone mentioned the Sea Mist as a place to stay, they do have a lot of things for the kids to do but the last two times we stayed there it was filthy. We haven%26#39;t been back.

We just stayed there during spring break and did not she anything dirty as a matter of fact a room looked as if it has just been remodeled.If ever you have have a problem with anthing they will help.The would change your room if not happy.

My personal favorite seafood in Murrell%26#39;s Inlet is Lee%26#39;s Inlet Kitchen. I would also suggest you check out the Sandy Beach Resort. The rooms in the Magnolia building are nice, spacious, have kitchens and are all oceanfront. They have multiple pools including a kiddie pool, hot tubs and a small lazy river. The lazy river and one of the pools and hot tubs are under the building so you can seek shade for yourself and little one in the heat of the day. Family Kingdom amusement park is across the street as is a small convenience store. The areas only oceanfront water park is next door as is a decent ice cream parlor. The location is great as you can navigate via backroads and avoid Hwy. 17 , 501 and Ocean Blvd. traffic for the most part. We%26#39;ve stayed here many times since the original owners of the Roxanne sold several years ago and have enjoyed every stay.

Speaking of the pier resturant, does anybody have any info

on the Yahtsman? We have been to Myrtle several times, and being from Jersey, I know that your not going to find lavish pampered lodging here.... heck, the only difference between Wildwood and Myrtle is the terms, ';The Shore'; and ';The Beach';!

The Yachtsman is right on 14th ave North. They have been there for at least 26 years. They have private condos you can rent and it is in a busy area of Myrtle beach. I think that the rooms run clear through, as you have ocean front and street front. Pier 14 is right there so you might have to move a little up or down the beach to get in the ocean.(No swimming too close to pier)

I haven%26#39;t stayed there for a very long time so I can%26#39;t tell you much about service or the rooms.

Charleston Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens

I%26#39;ve read what I can find about this annual event (runs through mid-April), but I%26#39;m wondering how it works.

A pass is apparently $40 a person. What does that get you? I wonder if it%26#39;s anything like the British National Trust Pass I had for visiting historic houses and gardens around England.

Is the pass good until the last day of this festival event? Can you visit any participating home with it? Are you unlimited with respect to how many places you may visit or what?

If anyone has any familiarity with how this works, would appreciate if you%26#39;d kindly clue me in. Thanks!

Charleston Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens

I just returned from Charleston where we had a ticket to the Festival of Homes and Gardens. It wasn%26#39;t exactly what I expected. You purchase a tour for a particular group of homes at a specific time. For example, we toured King Street homes on a Saturday night. It started at 6:00 pm and we were given a booklet that described the 8 homes on the tour. You could start at any of the 8 homes. There were guides and docents at each home.

I guess I was expecting to see the whole house. You only got to view a couple of rooms in each one. We saw a lot of parlors and dining rooms. We did see homes built Pre-Revolutionary War.

I probably wouldn%26#39;t do that again. I would rather see fewer homes, but more of the home.

Beach Colony Resort????

3 people in my family plus me are going to Myrtle Beach the week of July 14-21,2005. We are staying at the Beach Colony Resort Could anyone tell me about it. Amd what is the weather like in July

Each unit at the Beach Colony is individually owned. Some are better than others. This is an older resort and up in an area that has mostly homes and so the beach is less crowded. I would suggest you read the reviews on Tripadvisor and then decide if you will like it. You don%26#39;t always get what you pay for and this resort seems pricy. The weather is the same as in West Virginia in July......hot and most days, sunny. And the whole Grand Strand will be packed with people. Expect long lines everywhere and heavy traffic on Hwy 17. In my case I am heading to South Beach and staying at the no. 1 resort, The Oceanfront Hampton Inn, hoping to avoid the craziness of farther north.

me and 8 of my friends stayed here...its a hike to where everything goes on, but its so nice and quiet and the beach isnt crowded....its a nice place to stay, we were all 21-22 and we had a blast! we had 2 bedrooms and a couch bed that fit everyone and 2 bathrooms with 2 showers which was a dream come tru....the fullsize kitchen was helpful too...anything else? let me kno :)

I am staying there in July too. 5-10th. It will be the 1st time in 10 yrs. since I%26#39;ve been there. It was extremely nice then. With all the info in this site though, I%26#39;m starting to get alittle worried. Ah well, 3 guys in a 2 bedroom corner suite,we%26#39;ll just have to make the best of it! We thought it was very centrally located for going both north and south. Very quiet part of beach. Not as crowded. But there again, we golf--not sunbath. Can get very hot during this period. 90%26#39;s easy. Hope this helps.

Myrtle Beach in July will be sunny and hot. There may be an afternoon shower but usually just enough time to go in, get cleaned up, take a nap and get ready for dinner. North Myrtle Beach is less crowded but still plenty to do. Have a great trip.

I also think there is an Insiders Guide to Myrtle Beach that you can google. While they put out a serious of books on lots of different areas - called Insiders Guides - and you can browse through them at bookstores, I have found the entire contents online for other vacation spots and I%26#39;m thinking there%26#39;s a Myrtle Beach one. I am new to this forum but am glad I found it. Hopefully, all you helpful people will be able to provide me some insight...My boyfriend and I want to spend a few nights in Myrtle Beach, on our way home from a few nights in Hilton Head. Unfortunately, the days we would be able to stay is May 9-14 which is right before ';biker'; week officially begins. I understand that everywhere is going to be insane but are there places we can look into that will be a little quieter. Right now, I%26#39;m looking at staying at the Patricia Grand or Dayton House. I really wanted to stay in North Myrtle Beach but the hotels around there are a little on the high end of our budget. However, I would be open to ideas. Even though bike week doesn%26#39;t officially start until the 13th, will it be just as crazy there on the days leading up to it? Is the Patricia Grand a bad place to stay during this time?

I would love to hear anyone thoughts or advice on this time. I actually think it might be fun to experience ';bike week'; but my main concern is being able to sleep at night.

You will be there at the beginning of bike week so you should be fine. The biggest week for the bikers is the next week. And it is alot of fun to be there during bike week. And I have stayed at the Patricia Grand and would recommend it. I actually stayed there one time for bike week. And it is far enough down that you shouldn%26#39;t hear alot of noise. Try to get a room on one of the top floors.

My mother and I have been going to Myrtle Beach for many years for Mother%26#39;s Day weekend. This is actually a couple of days before the dates you are planning to be there. There are many, many, many motorcycles in town when we are there. We have spent the past couple of years at the Breaker%26#39;s Paradise Towers and have not had any problems. The biggest disappointment for us was that the bottom 3 floors of the parking garage were sectioned off for bikes only. The bikes are very loud of course inside of the parking garages. We usually try to stay on the North end of the strip. I certainly am not a biker but I must say that it is pretty interesting to be there at that time.

I would recommend Dayton House especially if you want quiet because security does a great job.Read the reviews and you will see alot of people agree with me.It is in the top 10 every year.Not the fanciest but if you want a quiet hotel with a nice pool,you will be happy.

I am heading down to M/B as well in May and I am avoiding Bike Week. It%26#39;s to bad cause 2 of my fav bands are playing there that week at H.O.B Styx %26amp; REO speedwagon.. I have been to M/B too many times by mistake for the biker week and if you are not into leather and Harleys you are a fish out of water.. They don%26#39;t bother you but you just feel funny walking into any bar or resturant with them hanging all over the place inside and out. I like to wear t-shirts, shorts and flip flops and that won%26#39;t fit in well during bike week.. I%26#39;m going the first week in May to avoid both weeks altogether.. likeitis !!!

I have never been to MB before and have been doing TONS of research on where to stay. Have you thought about the New Roxanne Towers? A lot of people have been suggesting this to me. Since you have been there before can I ask you where in MB you are going to stay? Downtown or the north end? I have three kids and I have received conflicting views. Some say stay Downtown the kids will have more fun... then others will say ....stay north it is more family orientated and quiet and you can just drive downtown. What do you suggest?

I would suggest the Sandy Beach Resort. It%26#39;s located just far enough south of the Pavilion area to avoid most of the traffic and noise. The rooms in the Magnolia building are nice, spacious, have kitchens and are all oceanfront. The hotel has multiple pools, hot tubs and a small lazy river. The lazy river, one pool and one hot tub are under the building if you want to seek shelter from the sun in the middle of the day. Navigating from here is a breeze without ever having to get on Hwy 17, 501 or Ocean Blvd you can go almost anywhere and avoid the traffic. There is a convenience store across the street, Family Kingdom amusement park across the street, the areas only oceanfront water park next door, some dining options within easy walking distance and 2nd Ave. Pier is a very short walk on the beach. We%26#39;ve stayed here many times over the last few years and have enjoyed every stay. Families and couples only.

Stayed at the Breakers before, it is one of the more upscale hotels in Myrtle Beach. I love it and would not stay anywhere else. The two bedroom suites are beautiful! You are direct ocean front, and the beaches are better on this side of Myrtle Beach. The Amusement parks are about .75 miles away. Starbucks is right across the street, and there are many great restaurants.

If you do choose the Breakers, be sure to ask for the Paradise building, it is the newest one and has a 400 foot lazy river and a nice kids pool, that is a ship.

In my opinion you never go wrong with the Breakers.

Traveling to Mt. Pleasant wkend of 4/29 alone. What to do??

Shem Creek is a fun place to eat good seafood at. It%26#39;s by the bridge to Sullivan%26#39;s Island. They%26#39;re right at a dock, over the water, so you can watch pelicans catch their dinner while you%26#39;re waiting for yours.

Fort Moultrie is on the Mt Pleasant side of the river and could be a fun place to spend an hour or two. And Charleston is right across the bridge.

Weather permitting, you could enjoy the beach on either Sullivan%26#39;s Island or Isle of Palms. In case of rain, there are scads of ';antique malls'; (more like flea markets from what I%26#39;ve seen) right in Mt Pleasant.

The city of Mt Pleasant is a bedroom community to Charleston, so what you%26#39;ll find along its main drag - Route 17 - is mostly of the chain variety: Lowe%26#39;s, Publix, Applebee%26#39;s, etc. There is a small, quiet, historic waterfront neighborhood worth stopping by. Its independent (!) drug store even sports an old-fashioned orange Rexall sign. An inn there contains an upscale dining room, oddly called Maverick%26#39;s, which might be a nice spot to unwind with a bottle of wine in. Whether it%26#39;s ';fun'; or lively is debatable, though!

My girlfriend %26amp; I are heading down for 4/23-4/26 for a getaway weekend. Just checked forecast - looks like some rain %26amp; in the mid-high 60%26#39;s - ugh! So much for swimming!

There are great seafood restaurants in Murrell%26#39;s Inlet (south of MB). Most have outdoor decks and patios overlooking the waterfront. If the weather is cool and rainy try The Dockside, they have a glassed/screened in porch with a fireplace. Really good food.

Hey there.. sorry to butt in.. however my sister and I have stayed at the summer wind. For a small little hotel... its was quite nice. In fact.. I saw there were several dogs out by the pool. (( on leashes of course )) The nice little breakfast is great. I would def opt for a ocean front room though.. we stayed on the side.. and we heard a lot of street noise.

Need advice on which hotel is the best choice

In researching a million hotels and reading a million comments on this site.. unfortunately, I am still confused as to which hotel to choose.

I have narrowed it down to Avista Resort, Longbay, Landmark, Sea Crest and Breakers.

Can anyone give me any advice on which hotel to choose?

I like the fact that Avista is new, but the web doesnt give realpictures. The price isn%26#39;t too bad. I%26#39;ve read good reviews. The Breakers. The price wasn%26#39;t too bad for a room in the Paradise tower (which I guess isn%26#39;t that old). The reviews were 1/2 and 1/2.

The Sea Crest give deluxe continental breakfast (none of the others give breakfast). It was a little more pricey than the others for the same kind of room. I also read not so good reviews.

The Landmark is where the action is, south MB, Their price for a suite was pretty good. I think their reviews were 1/2 and 1/2.

The Longbay Resort got great reviews, they have a package rate. A little more pricey than Avista which is new.

Can anyone give me some insight on my findings. I have the facts but, I would like to hear from someone who has actually stayed there to tell me whether it is good or not.

We stayed at the Sea crest 2 summers ago.We really ejoyed our stay but would say it is your average resort.We had no problems as I read on trip advisor.The free breakfast has a lot of variety but very few hot items and no meats.We liked the fact that the pool side bar had live entertaiment and karokee so we could have a drink and still watch the kids swim.We had a oceanfront room and we peeked in the rooms facing the parking lot and they seemed dark.There wasnt anything we really didnt like about it except the parking but most hotels in Myrtle beach has parking across the street.The resort is also across the street from Family Kingdom amusement park which is nice if you are going there.The Sea crest has a package deal also, so if this is your choice you may want to check into this option.If you have any other ?s let me know i will answer them.Yes we would stay there again.

I%26#39;m right there with you karray34. We have researched many hotels in Myrtle Beach also. We have reservations at the Seacrest for the first week of May and are also getting cold feet. After reading so many of these reviews -- so many are mixed, we are really fearful of what we will actually find at the Seacrest.

The Avista sounds really nice. However, it is a distance from a lot of the major attractions, ie, Broadway at the Beach, etc. and although we don%26#39;t mind driving around a bit, we really don%26#39;t feel like driving great distances every day while we are on vacation. Also, we%26#39;re not expecting to stay at the Taj Mahal, but after staying at some of the nicer resorts at Las Vegas, I think that we are getting spoiled. We have already stayed at the Myrtlewood Villas in Myrtle Beach. However, my husband really wanted to stay on the beach this time.

Does anyone else out there have any nice things to say about the Seacrest? I would really appreciate hearing from you. I know that one doesn%26#39;t sit in the room all day, but to us a nice room is part of the vacation experience. We are running out of time if we need to cancel in order to get a refund on our deposit. HELP!!! Thanks!!!

Check out the New Roxanne Towers. All units are Direct Oceanfront - All are new, they also all have HIGH SPEED INTERNET in every room - how many other properties have that? It is located in the best part of Myrtle Beach, Downtown (those North end properties such as Seawatch, baywatch %26amp; Avista are MILES away from everything plus the beach up there are not as good as the downtown properties..... as in no sand whereas the downtown beaches have lot%26#39;s of sand) . Actually, I will bne staying at the new Roxanne Towers later this year. I feel that if you want to stay in downtown Myrtle beach then your best bets are the New Roxanne Towers, Breakers Paradise tower or the camelot. All three will give you a direct oceanfront room and a great location within walking distance of the pavillion and other attractions. Plus I have never heard this discussed before but in my opinion the Beach quality is MUCH Better in downtown Myrtle Beach than up in North Myrtle Beach. There is much better sand in the downtown area - In North Myrtle beach there was very little sand in the areas where we investigated on our last stay. Look at the pictures on the photo gallery at www.theroxanne.com for what I mean.

I have been there before this hokcey11 again. I completely agree with tradermanny! He hit the nail right on the head. All three of those Roxanne, Breakers Paradise Towers, and Camelot are the best Hotels out there. I would not stay to far fron the pavilion or Broadway, the traffic can be a nightmare! You want to be able to walk to Pavilion and other things there. The beaches are 100% better at these locations.

You really can%26#39;t find any decent pictures on the web of Roxanne Towers, they are very new. Camelot has a theme and you can find lots of pictures of the hotel. And the breakers as i said before has a wonderful website. My advise would definately be cancel other location and get get something more centrally located.

Too many scary comments about the Seacrest to risk spoiling our vacation by staying there. Besides, it%26#39;s always nice to stay at a new resort. And, as you said, it%26#39;s much more centrally located than the Avista (which we might have considered staying at if it weren%26#39;t so far away from most of the major attractions -- not to mention, the high of cost of gas these days). By the way, for everyone%26#39;s information, the Roxanne Towers is running a 20% special from 4/23/05 to 5/13/05. However, you are not able to get this discount by making reservations over the internet. You have to call them. Thanks again, tradermanny. I hope that you have a great vacation. You are welcome pianolady. Please report your finding of the New Roxanne Towers. I think The New Roxanne Towers, The Breakers Paradise Tower, The Camelot are the Cream of Downtown Myrtle Beach - All are less than 3 years old with Roxanne being less than a year old. Another one to consider downtown would be The Patricia Grande.

tradermanny, my husband and I have already stayed at the Patricia Grand, the very first time that we vacationed in Myrtle Beach (which I think was about 6 or 7 years ago. Suffice it to say, we didn%26#39;t like it at all and based on our experience would not return again. After that experience, we stayed at Myrtlewood Villas for a couple of years (formerly known as Magnolia Place). We had gone to the Patricia Grand on the recommendation of someone that I knew from work who said that he and has family had gone there a number of times and had liked it. Outside of the lobby (which was very nice and typical of a lot of hotels) we were not impressed. Our room was very dark, drab and dreary. Also, the staff were not very helpful either. But then again, it was several years ago, so maybe it has improved. I will definitely post our experience about the new Roxanne Towers when we return from our vacation in mid-May. Although the weather in the Pittsburgh area has been beautiful for the past week, we are really looking forward to getting away to say the least. Thanks again for your recommendation about the Roxanne Towers.

Budget Motels in Mount Pleasant

Anyone have any experiences or knowledge of the budget motels in Mount Pleasant? Never been to Charleston area before, but was just laid-off, so gonna take advantage of the time-off off by driving down and staying a week in mid-April. The weekly rates at the Red Roof and Extended Stay are both low (mid 300%26#39;s incl tax).

I%26#39;m not picky for this trip... Just want clean %26amp; quiet acceptable accommodation. For example, I was happy last week with the Motel 6 in Williamsburg, Va.

Any opinions about either the Extended Stay or Red Roof (or other budget properties) in Mount Pleasant or Charleston? Thank you.

I would choose the Extended Stay over the Red Roof Inn for the same price. It%26#39;s newer, interior corridor and generally a little nicer than the Red Roof Inn. They are only a few hundred yards from each other so the locations are really no different.

Masters Inn next door is $120/week less, but its guest reviews are NOT very complimentary. There are no reviews anywhere for Extended Stay.

I had initially picked Red Roof, as it has satisfactory reviews, and I thought the surrounding grounds looked fairly attractive (pond, swings %26amp; landscaping), but I think I%26#39;ll switch to Extended Stay because of your tips plus its kitchenette.

Is Extended Stay Mount Pleasant in an unsafe area or in unattractive surroundings?

It%26#39;s a fine area. There are many hotels in this area right at the foot of the Cooper River Bridge. 5 minutes dowtown and less than 10 minutes to the beach.

DO NOT STAY AT THE MASTERS INN!!! That is the worst motel in Mt. Pleasant. It is dirty and run down in an otherwise fine area.

For anyone interested, I phoned both places and learned that the Mount Pleasant Red Roof joined that chain 15 years ago but it%26#39;s much older than that. However, the Red Roof is being extensively renovated this summer and fall. After that you%26#39;ll get new rooms (probably at higher cost I%26#39;d guess)... you can see how their new rooms will look here: www.redroof.com/about_the_roof/newrooms.asp

The ESA said they%26#39;re only seven years old. If you book by the week, you save about $20/night over the daily rate ($55 versus $75 in April). But you only get twice-weekly cleaning. That suits me fine, as I often prefer staff to stay out of my room anyway and leave the ';do not disturb'; all day - especially if I leave my laptop on the desk!

While the ESA has kitchenettes, the Red Roof offers guests an outdoor pool plus a grassy picnic area with tables, BBQ and swing beside a public pond.

Both properties plan to fully convert to high-speed wireless internet by year-end.

I booked the ESA, but I%26#39;d probably book the Red Roof after they complete their new renovations soon (in the meantime, I guess I%26#39;d stay away from a place that needs renovating?)

Chech out roomsavers.com. You can save lots of $ over other internet deals. Sleep Inn on Wingo Way is very nice with a free continental breakfast. The Masters Inn looks yucky. Not well kept up. Sleep Inn might be okay, but for your money I would go with Sleep Inn. Nice pool too. The Days Inn is okay but the carpets need a good cleaning. Have fun. We love Charleston!!

As it is, I%26#39;m at the Extended Stay now and it suits me fine. For only $50/night I have a good size room with high-speed wireless internet and a kitchen which is a big plus for a 9-day stay. Check the website for a virtual tour of the rooms, it%26#39;s exactly accurate. Like a little studio. It%26#39;s in a good area with nice homes across the street. Motel is budget but still new-ish (only 7 yrs old), in very good condition and well-maintained. People should be aware that there%26#39;s no pool or facilities and only twice-weekly room cleaning, but you have a kitchen and rooms are in great shape. Towels, linens, and coffee (for the coffee-maker) are freely available from the front.

They have deals all over the U.S. I%26#39;ve used them several times in the past and save as much as 50% on my motel bill. (Then I can afford to eat at nicer places besides McDonalds!)

The Extended Stay is usually full (I%26#39;m there now and it%26#39;s full right now even being weekday).

For anyone going there, I%26#39;d suggest asking for a room on the back side... it faces a field %26amp; trees and residential homes instead of another motel.

Oh, these rooms even have a steam iron %26amp; ironing board in them - that was handy when i went to put on my clothes for dinner only to find them wrinkled in my suitcase!

The internet is great too... i%26#39;m planning my next trip for may already (i may NEVER want to go back to work, haha!)

3 Singles traveling to MB in July w/o a car. Will it be...

There will be 3 of us traveling some time in July. We may be staying at the Staybridge Suites and we would like to know if it will easy to get around to do some shopping and maybe a beach day, not to mention dinner and some entertainment. We%26#39;re early 40s without kids and hoping to have a nice relaxing getaway. Is that possible here? Thank you for any feedback.

Can I ask why did you choose Staybride Suites?Was it the price?Or was it the fact you are bringing your pet?If you did have a car it would take 10 mins. to drive to the beach.There is not much around the hotel.The mall there is closed down and the nearest convient store is about half a mile.I think the place would be relaxing but feel you would really need a car.A cab would end up costing a lot.I would suggest you try some where else.If you tell us what exactly you are wanting we would be better off to help you.You may want to check the Holiday Inn at broadway at the beach since they have a free shuttle and they are by broadway at the beach a huge shopping/entertaiment/dinner complex.good luck
