It looks like we%26#39;re going to Kiawah island in July and we%26#39;d like to visit Charleston while we%26#39;re there. What are the ';must see/must do/must eat there'; places? We%26#39;re not into clubs or bars , unless they%26#39;ve got a pool table. We LOVE to eat and like old buildings. And we would like to just find a stretch of beach worthy of napping.
activities in July???
If you like old bldgs, DEFINITELY take a walking tour and/or carriage tour. I think we talked more about the bldgs %26amp; architecture on the walking tour. Also, check out they have some very cool looking, old cemeteries, like out of a haunted house. Kaminsky%26#39;s for dessert. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Historic District %26amp; it was very nice! Not like a normal holiday inn, was a very good price, not the $110 listed on the website, could walk to everything.
activities in July???
From your ';name'; it looks like you have children. How old?
Kiawah is wonderful. Made for families and folks who do not want any ';hub-bub.'; Make sure you get bikes as that will be your favorite mode of transportation. The place is like a garden and they have done a great job of hiding or shileding the buildings. There is a %26#39;town center'; as a means of creating some commercial place for necessities but there is no real town or heart on Kiawah.
You will get your wish on Beaches!
if you are not in the Inn, stay near Night heron park so you can use the pool and park facilities.
Charleston - wonderful, quaint and just down right cool but..... be aware that in July Charleston is the hottest most humid place in the entire world. It will melt you down if you don%26#39;t have some type of acclimation. So early morning or early evening for walks. Check out the Historic Charleston Foundation and get the info on walking tours and such. PLENTY of history here! Suggest strolling down Church Street from Market to Battery and then return via Meeting street.
You are not going to find restaurants on Kiawah, So bring groceries. But you can slip across casueway and go to Bohicket Marina and find some very nice restaurants and some ambience along the moorings, etc. This also a great place for renting a boat and doing some exploring.
Charleston is just a touch too far away from Kiawah to be running back and forth - so plan carefully.
I%26#39;ll be glad to be more specific if you have questions.
I am thinking of renting a villa at kiawah Island in July and would greatly appreciate any help. It seems like some people have had bad experiences renting villas-I saw recommendations to use Pam Harrington exclusives instead of the hotel. Does anyone have any other recommendations-like where to stay? Anything else to ask for?
Also, are the no-seeums a problem at this time of year? How about the weather?
I have 2 children; 12 and 14 any advice would be wonderful.
Thank you.
i am a mom to 1 yr old twins! and a charleston native. I have worked on kiawah.......i love the island and we vacation there and seabrook island...want a beach good to nap on? kiawah is definately relaxing and beautiful.....if you are looking for nature, no commercialism, bike riding, swimming, shell searching you are going to the right place...on the down side...it takes 45 mins to get anywhere to do any historical tours or sightseeing....charleston is 45 mins away...the plantations...3 on hwy 61 all together are about 30 mins away,,,i would reccommend them.....july is very humid and hot...so do things early in the am ..rest from 12 noon - 4pm thats what we do...near by close to kiawah is a good rest and casual place named Red Sky...and Chez Fish....the new Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah is beautiful and has some restuarants and a Spa...make reservations now if you can,,,,good luck! ;-}
by the way i forgot to mention brand newly opened at the entrance to kiawah and seabrook island is a new developement called ';Freshfields Village'; there is a major grocery store, and shopping there...something we never ever had before...so now to go to the grocery it is a 6 min ride VS 10 to 20....
