Has anyone heard of the reputation of the Ramada Inn Coliseum or Red Roof Inn in North Charleston? We will have a car so don%26#39;t need to stay too near town and are looking for something around $50-60 that doesn%26#39;t have a nasty story associated with it!! Also, any recommendations for some great southern cuisine around $8-$15 entree? Thanks.
Reasonable $50-$60 accommodation? Local cuisine?
I would suggest the Sleep Inn on Wingo Way in Mt. Pleasant. It is just across the Cooper River Bridges from Charleston. You can be in historic Charleston in less than 5 minutes. Try to find a coupon at ';roomsavers.com'; and you%26#39;ll save LOTS on the cost of the room. The rooms are nice and the staff is great. Also, they have a fairly nice free continental breakfast in the mornings. There are several good restaurants that aren%26#39;t too pricey. Sticky Fingers is good and in your budget. Also you might want to try some of the nicer places at lunchtime. The entrees are a bit smaller so the price is cheaper. But the food is just as good. We love Queen Ann%26#39;s Revenge on Daniel Island. A bit pricey but worth every penny. Atmosphere, service and food are all fantastic. The Shemm Creek Bar and Grill also has good food and is not as expensive.
Be careful staying near the airport (North Charleston), it sometimes can be noisy!

Thanks very much. We will try what you suggest.
Don%26#39;t stay in north charleston... it%26#39;s far away from the historic area and beaches. And you have to drive through the bad part of town.
I checked out the Red Roof in Mount Pleasant. Not bad. Better than the other Red Roof I stayed in... it%26#39;s on a very large pond and has nice grounds. Only costs $45/night in tourist season if you book at least 7 nights. For $5-$10 per night more, The Extended Stay nearby includes a nice kitchenette and is newer. It%26#39;s available with one queen or two doubles or 1 king (larger room). I looked in both properties before choosing the latter... See the thread here on budget lodging.
The sleep inn is just down the street and might be a better choice for a wee more if you want a pool and cont breakfast instead of a kitchen. Try that roomsaver website, looks good.
I agree with everyone else--stay in Mt Pleasant. North Charleston can be...interesting.
I just put this on another post, but eat at Boulevard Diner in Mt Pleasant. Not much on atmosphere but terrific food and inexpensive.
