We (family of four) are looking for a new place to explore this August 2005. We would like any info on beaches and attractions. Kids are teen + pre-teen. Would appreciate detailed info on beaches. Can you recommend beaches that have waves big enough to go boogie boarding but not so big that they knock you around and have strong undertow/rip tides? Which areas are rich in local culture? Shopping to make a teen happy? We are not looking for theme parks or anything like that. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
best beachside vacation spotI can%26#39;t believe that nobody out there has any info or recommendations for us. Surly someone has an opinion or an experience with the beaches of SC. I know you%26#39;re out there. Please respond.
best beachside vacation spotHi
Well not sure abour boogie boarding never looked at the waves that way but Hilton head is a great place Savannah is about 45 min away and Beaufort is about the same lots of history
i have a samll condo on the beach not ocean front but a view from the balcony

miniture golf in walking distance
if interested let me know golddm1@netzero.com
If you would like to enjou the beach and local culture, I would suggest Charleston. You can rent a condo on the Isle of Palms, Sullivans or Folly Beach all short drives into downtown Charleston. Charleston is a beautiful historical town but it will be very hot in August during the day.

Where about are you staying? Myrtle Beach Area, Hilton Head Islnd Area??? I can give recommendations on the Myrtle Beach Area.
Ocean Lakes Campground in South Myrtle /Surfside beach is a great place for kids. They have rentals. Check out the website. www.oceanlakes.com. The have pools, gameroom, snack bars, schedules activites ) bingo, firetruck rides, etc.) You can also rent a golf cart. It is a great placer for families.
Look into the Wild Dunes area near Charleston. Beautiful upscale area with nice beaches and close enough to Charleston for a few day trips.
We love the beaches below Myrtle: Surfside, Garden City, Litchfield, Pawley%26#39;s Island. Beautiful beaches close enough to venture into Myrtle Beach for shopping. Not sure they are ';rich in local culture';. Brookgreen Gardens near Litchfield is incredible. Check it out at brookgreen.org.
Are you more interested in renting a house or staying in a hotel?
I may be a bit prejudicious, but I live on one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
Have you ever visited Florida%26#39;s EMERALD COAST?
by the time August rolls around, Pensacola Beach will be in pretty good shape. Hurricane Ivan did a job on us.
No where near as commercial as Destin or Panama City.
We have the most beautiful white sand beaches, the surf is nothing like the Atlantic but you can catch a good wave on most days. We are Florida%26#39;s First Place City, our Navy Base is the home of the Blue Angles, I have been watching them for the last 40 years or more, never disapointing.
We also have the longest fishing pier in the Gulf of Mexico.
(the Gulf Pier on Pensacola Beach)
I am not in sales or marketing, I just love my little island.
Check us out on the web.
If you%26#39;re looking for a true ';get away'; then head down to Hunting Island or Edisto Park campgrounds. Both have great beaches and good waves. I prefer Hunting Island. It%26#39;s 30 minutes from Beaufort, and it%26#39;s just a more picturesque place to visit.
If you%26#39;re wanting shopping, restaurants and night life.... go to the Grand Strand. Anywhere along Myrtle Beach you%26#39;ll find decent beaches and lots of places that will make a teen happy. However, not much culture at Myrtle.
A possible happy medium may be Hilton Head for Charleston. Hilton has the shopping, but not much culture. Charleston has tons of culture, not much shopping.
good luck.
Between Hunting Island and Edisto, I like Edisto best. Great shelling, if you like that kind of thing, and very relaxing. All you get at Edisto is beach, though (a few shops and restaurants). However, it%26#39;s less than an hour to Charleston, and not much further to Savannah. If you have teens that enjoy being on the go and doing things, the beaches in Charleston, Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach would be more to their liking.
