Disappointing visit to the Spa at Charleston Place

Below is an exerpt from a letter sent to the General Manager of Charleston Place. After more than a month, there has been no response.

I was in Charleston to participate in the annual Cooper

River Bridge Run. As a treat for myself and two of my friends that were to run the race with me, I scheduled a ';Feet First'; treatment the afternoon prior to the run. From the description on the web site, I expected and told my friends to expect a real treat for the feet. I was terribly disappointed and embarrassed with the typical and very average pedicure we received.

The staff that performed the pedicures was friendly and did a fine job of providing basic pedicures. There was no effort to do anything else. I do not consider soaking feet in warm water to be an added bonus. ';Massage'; chairs and water basins are generally the norm in nail salons I have been to. I really had anticipated something above and beyond based on the the reputation of Charleston Place and what I read on the website.

To further aggravate me and make matters worse, the woman who called the day before our appointments encouraged me to bring in our bib numbers for the race for a 20% discount. When I presented the bibs to the cashier who rang up my bill for the three treatments, I was told there was no such discount.

A moment later I was told there was a discount only on one treatment service (which I did not have) and then she finally found someone who said the discount was in fact good on any spa service. The cashier was probably the most unfriendly person I encountered in four days of an otherwise nice vacation in Charleston. I was made to feel like I was trying to get something I was not supposed to get and it was frankly

embarassing for me to deal with this in front of my guests that I was treating to the treatments.

Since I am returning to Charleston for a weekend stay later in the summer, I had wanted to take the opportunity to see if your property deserved it%26#39;s good reputation. I was very disappointed that it did not.

I hope you also posted this on the Charleston Place page on Tripadvisor. Such services cost too much not to be right.
