Relocating to Charleston...need advice...

Hi,

My fiance and I are relocating to Charleston. What%26#39;s a decent area to look at not so pricey real estate ( %26lt;$200,000 ), if any. We don%26#39;t mind commuting a little if traffic is not too bad. We are from the NE so we are used to traffic jams!!! :)

hey there:

It%26#39;s been about 2 decades since I lived there.

but dripping humid hot summers is what a recall.

fun though esp if one is interested in history.

I even lived in an old house near the Naval Base.

It has been shut down (BRAC)

and my old ship (ya I%26#39;m a NAVY VET -glad to be out and

out of DEFENSE Dept altogether)

anyhow my ship is thankfully razor-blades now.

being how I was used seeing Mountains, The low Coutry

of SC was a bother. But I loved JOHNs Island.

and driving up to the SC State Capital Columbia.

Have fun down there.

and dont fight the heat.

(no need the moisturizer so that%26#39;s good)

In general, real estate gets cheaper the further you are from downtown (at least if you avoid the sketchier areas). For under 200K, you might try West Ashley or James Island if you want to be close to downtown. There are some developments in Mount Pleasant in that range. Mount Pleasant tends to have newer construction. The Avondale and Byrnes Downs area in West Ashley has been improving remarkably over the last years with houses in $200 range, but they are generally small. Traffic is really not bad at all relative to any large city I%26#39;ve lived in. The commute between downtown and Mt. Pleasant can be kind of long over the bridges over the Cooper River, especially if there is an accident. You might consider Summerville (a suburb) if you don%26#39;t mind a commute and depending on where you work, etc. The price to space ratio is generally pretty good out that way. If you want to talk with a really great real estate agent, let me know I can can give you his info. He is patient, helpful, and really honest. I bought my most recent house with him. Good luck!

Hi, I would like JHFlood%26#39;s real estate agent%26#39;s name and phone number as I will be buying Charleston real estate soon too. Thanks!! -J

I worked with Bob Rymer at Daniel Ravenel Realty. He really was a great agent to work with. No pressure, really patient, helpful, thorugh. He helped a friend of mine who was moving from Russia recently buy his first house. I don%26#39;t have his email, but his phone is 800-382-2279 or 843-723-7150.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it. :)
