Wadamalaw Island

We are driving up with my son%26#39;s BoyScout Troop and they will be going to Wadamalaw Island for summer camp. How close is Charleston to this place and can anyone tell us about hotels and places to eat at in that area.

TIA

Wadamalaw Island

Charleston is about 20 miles from Wadmalaw Island%26#39;s Camp Ho-Non-Wah. There are absolutely no hotels, motels, motor lodges, etc. on or near Wadmalaw. To get to W.I., you have to go through John%26#39;s Island, where I grew up. There are no hotels there, either. Probably the closest you will get are the hotels along highway 17 (aka Savannah Highway). There are about a dozen or so along Hwy 17, probably the best being the Hampton Inn.

There are some great places to eat on John%26#39;s Island, James Island, and of course the mainland. If you like barbecue, try JB%26#39;s Smokeshack, which is a tiny place on Maybank Hwy on Johns Island - it is fantastic! Also on Maybank Hwy, there is the St. Johns Island cafe (John%26#39;s Island) and a few in the Riverland Terrace area of James Island.

If money isn%26#39;t too much of a concern, then I would try to find a motel downtown or nearby and enjoy our beautiful city from within.

You don%26#39;t say when you%26#39;re coming, but I think that the het has arrived and doesn%26#39;t plan to leave anytime soon. Hot and humid, but I guess you%26#39;re used to that! ;-)
